Counter-Strike: mTw v SK preview

SK Gaming goes head-to-head with mTw to decide who takes home the first prize of $50,000 USD and emuLate's crown.
The 2008 edition of the World Cyber Games has now reached the final day but the event won't end before another mouth-watering clash consigned to the history books takes place.

Both teams put their 100% record on the line as they come to the final undefeated, having just conceded single maps during their WCG bracket path.

mTw appears to be better prepared for this final than SK: although both teams secured a 5-0 record in their respective groups, mTw had to cross swords with the likes of Alternate and k23, while SK Gaming did not have to play any renowned opponent.

Past the group stage, mTw took on esport-Eu and then Meet Your Makers, never allowing the Polish side to get more than 9 rounds. After this, mTw recorded a tough but well-deserved win over Norway, who had defeated Gravitas Gaming.

SK Gaming, meanwhile, overcame Just in the Round of 16, after which it met GamePlay. When many were thinking that SK Gaming would record a comfortable win over the Finnish rival, the Swedish team - leading 15-6 - allowed GamePlay to perform one of this tournament's most exciting comebacks to win the second map 19-15. The last map would be a hard-fought one, with SK winning 16-13 on de_dust2. In the Semi-finals, SK played e-STRO in a nail-bitting match that ended with the Swedish team taking the victory after three maps.

The last time the two teams faced each other dates back to last month, when mTw met SK Gaming during the World eSports Masters event in China. The match, played on de_train, saw the Danish team emerge as the happier with a score of 16-6, a result that threw SK out of the tournament.

mTw is now hoping for a repeat performance from its previous encounter with SK Gaming, while the Swedish team will definitely need to step up its game to defeat a team that is eager to record its second trophy in less than a month.

Match facts: Eight of the ten players involved in this match have already lost a WCG Grand Final. Robert "RobbaN" Dahlström, Dennis "walle" Wallenberg and Marcus "zet" Sundstrom lost with NiP to Pentagram in 2006, Jonas "whiMp" Svendsen lost with The Titans to Team 3D in 2004 while the rest of the mTw members lost to emuLate last year.
