Counter-Strike: mTw over SK to win WCG 2008

mTw defeated SK Gaming twice to clinch the gold at the World Cyber Games 2008.
Denmark's representative mTw got off to a good start after winning the first map but it would allow SK Gaming to equalise on de_tuscan, only to crush the Swedish team on the final map, de_train.

On de_dust2, mTw, who began as T, started out better, winning the first round. Then, SK Gaming's good eco strategy spread panic in the Danish team's offence and almost cost mTw a round, which would eventually happen in the third round, where mTw couldn't get into Bombsite B.

SK Gaming would then take control of the match, winning the next five rounds to make it 6-2 before watching mTw get back into the game and start winning some rounds again.

The first-half would end with 8-7 in favour of mTw on the scoreboard, a result that left everything open as the teams switched sides.

mTw - now as CT - started better once again, winning the first three rounds to enlarge its lead to four. Despite SK Gaming's efforts to win rounds as T, mTw's defence was simply a wall and so the first map ended 16-10 for the Danish.

On de_tuscan, mTw - playing as T - found it very hard to get past through SK Gaming's defence so the Danish team would only be able to score for the first time seven rounds into the game. From then, though, it was almost an all-mTw show as the 2007 WCG runner-up managed to get seven rounds in a row to level the game.

The first-half ended 8-7, just like it had happened in the first map, but it was now SK Gaming leading the game.

As CT, mTw secured the first two rounds of the match but SK Gaming replied right after to level the game on 9 rounds. SK Gaming then were in the driving seat and even enjoyed a five-round lead over mTw. However, despite being just one round away from winning the map, SK allowed mTw to perform a little comeback, only to clinch the last round to make it 16-14.

SK Gaming strikes back

The decisive map was de_train, a map on which mTw had triumphed over SK less than a month ago in China for the World eSports Masters.

SK Gaming, who started as T, managed to get the opening two rounds but mTw responded right after, winning the third round with two Danish players surprisingly buying scouts. The risk paid off and mTw quickly took the lead.

mTw looked very efficient as CT as the Danish team would only allow SK to take two more rounds so the game reached the half-time mark with 11-4 on the scoreboard. SK Gaming's men knew they had a mountain to climb but they were now playing as CT so the game was far from over.

But things got even uglier for SK in the second-half as a well-planned rush by mTw on inner bombsite put the Danish team just two rounds away from the WCG gold.

mTw would not let SK Gaming get back into the game, winning the third map 16-4 to be crowned champion of the World Cyber Games.
