Rekrut.ru has announced that it will hold a $24,000 Counter-Strike tournament in December with big European names in attendance.
The event, called Rekrut.ru Championship 2008, has the purpose of celebrating the launch of Rekrut.ru, a new Russian news portal that strives to provide professional coverage "of electronic entertainment and E-sport, in particular in CIS and Baltic".

Rekrut.ru Championship 2008, due to take place on December 14th at the 4Game Gaming Center in Moscow, will have a total prize purse of $30,000, $24,000 for the professional tournament and $6,000 for the amateur one.

The professional tournament will feature sixteen teams, eight of which will be invited by the organisation, while the remaining eight spots will be decided through a LAN qualifier, taking place on December 13th at the Click-Net Gaming Center, also in Moscow.

So far only four teams have been invited, you can find them below:

Denmark mTw
Germany Team Alternate
Finland HaHa
Kazakhstan k23

The prize distribution for the tournament will be as follows:

1 - $12 000
2 - $8 000
3 - $4 000

It has also been confirmed that the tournament will begin with a group stage, followed by a double-elimination phase.

#1 what are you talking about $24,000 is a good amount of money for first place..although it seems kind of dumb that theres apparently no 2nd or 3rd place winners. oh and why alternate and HaHa instead of gameplay/mouz??

$24k first prize?? I thot it's only $12k.. It's affordable trip if you're from neighbouring countries. I think these days the prize purse should be at least $30k for a professional event. Let's just see next year if there'll be more funds coming from other parties since CGS has been shut down totally :)) That tennis dude Djokovic recently juz won $1.4 million for a shanghai tourney.. WTF ..

#7, #9 they have a great, oldschool lineup:
luppis, shiri, barrack, kuppi, toNppa.

k23 ftw! (after mibr, my favorite team)

They'll have 16 teams so at least mouz, GP, fnatic, SK, mYm, virtus, ATS (both squads) etc. Might be a good tournament :O

Does source get new professional tournaments every day like 1.6? NAHHHH BRO

i wonder how long would it take for a top team to claim their money back...

#24

Yes, one of the k23 players has left the project right after WCG, but the team has already found a replacement and will attend upcoming ASUS Autumn 2008 event as well as Rekrut...
