The 2005 ESWC holder has decided to return to Counter-Strike: 1.6 action following the demise of the Championship Gaming Series earlier this week.

With Evil Geniuses, Gravitas, MoB Gaming and x3o all fancying their chances next year, the former CGS teams' chances are being written off in some quarters.

But Montaner is confident his team will be able to overcome all opposition, even the one that comes from the old continent.

"We definitely have beaten GG and x3o several times, and we have more knowledge and experience so yes we can compete right now against those top European teams," he said on LA compLexity's forum.

He goes on to criticize the poor campaigns abroad made by the U.S. teams during his CGS stint, having added that his team will mount a serious challenge in the upcoming international events.

"None of those teams have been able to do anything or represent the U.S.A. proudly. Things are going to change.

"I know what it takes to beat euros, and on a consistent level," he concluded.

if anyone calls him arrogant for telling the truth, then you're just jealous. he's absolutely right in saying that coL has the experience and knowledge to be a top international contender again. im not a coL fanboy, im just heading off all the trolls that will have no idea what they're talking about when they call him arrogant or ignorant for those comments.

frod is one of the most consistent fraggers in the game IMO. I really hope coL can return to be a top cs team, and represent the U.S. scene.

GotFrag is the media, and media always stirs up drama anywhere it can find it. They don't need permission to use your quotes. It gives them the ability to hype up matches in the future if they do happen.

He is correct though. I haven't played CS at the CEVO-p/CAL-i level in a while, but when I did the players that are now in the 'top' in U.S. CS 1.6 were either mid/low tier CEVO-p or down in CAL-p. After a few months of practice coL will run every current U.S. teams hopes and dreams into the ground.

col is already making a bad name for themselves again. First they decide to attack gotfrag's lack of coverage over cevo-p source (like anyone cares) and now they come off like they just won ESWC again. It's probably not worth an article but why make posts if you don't feel like people should buy into what you are saying?

Col and 3D's previous success in 1.6 can be attributed in part to travel sponsorship and salaries. The organizations themselves allowed the players to focus on gaming more so than other teams. If Col does not get the financial backing they once did (from JLake & or Sponsors) they will find that it will be a more difficult road to get back to where they once were.

anyway, I do think coL can get/IS back to the top of the american scene and could possibly do well internationally again. Rambo and Hanes are very similar to Tr1p and Sunman, respectively. Hanes is more aggressive/individual player then sunman was. So they definitely have the same type of pieces they had when they were able to do well internationally.
