Counter-Strike: Team Seven returns

By: Luis Mira - Published November 25, 2008 at 8:18 PM EST - Writer Archive
Team Seven has announced the return to activity more than a year after its disbandment.
The Icelandic team had announced its official closure in January 2007 following a series of roster changes that proved to be far from successful.

Team Seven has now confirmed its return to activity with a roster that is almost similar to the one that managed a fourth-place finish at WSVG UK in 2006.

"I have moved to the east coast of Iceland and had nothing to do, just playing with friends, and I missed hanging out with the seven guys so I just called Spike and denos and asked them if they wanted to start playing seriously again," Guđmundur “roMim” Jónsson told GotFrag.com.

"I had been playing with Vargur, who has been in the Icelandic cs elite for past 4-5 years, and I asked him if he wanted to play with us in seven.

"During the last two weeks we were just waiting for an answer from WarDrake over whether he wanted to start playing again and today he confirmed that he is ready to put his time into the team again."

Jónsson added that Seven plans on attending some international events in 2009 though it will have a very hard time to find sponsors willing to invest in the team.

"The reason we called it quits almost two years ago was the lack of sponsors and the poor Icelandic CS scene, we have no ESWC, WCG or KODE5 qualifiers here, so it is really hard to find some support," he noted.

"We are not sure how we are going to manage some money but we will probably end up paying it ourselves... like always.

"I believe GameGune and some KODE5 qualifier are really high on the list, then again I have always wanted to go to Russia, maybe if there is some event there we will show up."

On Seven's goals for 2009, Jónsson said: "We just want to represent our country and earn back the respect that we had and hopefully do some damage in the international scene."

Team Seven's line-up is the following:

Iceland Vignir "WarDrake" Vignisson
Iceland Guđmundur "roMim" Jónsson
Iceland Arnar "Vargur" Ingvarsson
Iceland Birgir "sPiKe” Águstsson
Iceland Brynjar "deNos" Jóhannsson
