Counter-Strike: GamePlay to lose CS team

By: Luis Mira - Published December 18, 2008 at 9:18 AM EST - Writer Archive
GotFrag.com understands that the GamePlay Counter-Strike team will be looking for pastures new in January.
The Finnish team decided to join the ranks of GamePlay in early October in what seemed to be a highly-lucrative deal for the former 69°N-28°E team.

But the so-called financial crisis seems to continue hitting e-Sports hard just one day after the ESWC confirmed the dropout of NVIDIA as main sponsor.

GotFrag.com understands that the Finnish players' current deal with GamePlay expires at the end of the year and that they have decided not to extend it.

"The financial crisis as people know has hit Russia really hard," team manager Shayan "Shayan" Taleb told fragster.de.

"It's going to hit eSports a lot harder. Companies are going to cut investments considerably, Gameplay.tv was just the one to start with."

This means that the ex-roccat squad is now on the lookout for a new home for 2009.

GamePlay has the following team:

Finland Oskari "ruuit" Aspe
Finland Juuso "contE" Sajakoski
Finland Niko "naSu" Kovanen
Finland Samu "plastE" Aalto
Finland Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen
