SteelSeries and Media Markt Announce Ultimate Gaming Tour
COPENHAGEN, January 1st, 2008 - The leading manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear, SteelSeries, today announced the Ultimate Gaming Tour in partnership with Media Markt - the Swedish division of one of Europe's biggest and fastest growing consumer electronics retail chains. The Ultimate Gaming Tour is a unique winner-takes-it-all in-store tournament, offering 100.000 SEK to the winner of a 1vs1 Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament, which includes qualifiers in 15 different Media Markt stores in Sweden.

Ultimate Gaming Tour is a 1vs1 tournament that focuses mainly on the individual skills of the participating players. The Ultimate Gaming Tour will crown the best aimer in Counter-Strike 1.6, regardless of team, fame and previous merits and award him/her 100,000 Swedish Kroner. The qualifiers will be spread out across 14 Media Markt retail outlets in Sweden, making it easy for a very high percentage of Swedish gamers to participate in the tournament, without having to endure large travel distances or expenses relating to this.

The grand final of the Ultimate Gaming Tour will be held in Stockholm on March 21st, and will kick off on January 31st in Malmö. Signups for the first qualifiers will open on the 2nd of January on www.UGT.se, where all information regarding the tournament is available.

All matches in the Ultimate Gaming Tour will be played on aim_UGT_2009, a custom-made version of the popular Counter-Strike 1.6 aim_map, featuring tweaks and optimizations designed to eliminate any advantages and disadvantages between the two sides. Optimizations include changes to spawn points, player models and pass-thru objects, all aimed to make this the most fair and evenly balanced 1vs1 Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament ever organized.

Additional partners for the Ultimate Gaming Tour include Intel, NETGEAR, Packard Bell, Kaspersky and Inferno Online.

this can only help counter-strike people... 99% of the people that play/ed counter-strike didn't get into it for the competition but rather the amount of fun they had playing it.

A 1v1 tournament is a lot better to get the casual gamer interested in the game which may or may not lead to him finding out about competitive eSports later on. Why? Because instead of them not knowing what the hell is going on (common.. do you think a 5v5 CS match makes any sense to people who don't actually know anything about it?) they will just say "oh hey, a cool game being played with the only real focus being to kill the other person".

Small steps!!

Wow, what a complete waste of time. Surely they had the resources and backing to set up a massive 5v5 tournament and they chose to do this crap instead?
