The German organization, has reportedly lost Advanced Micro Devices as a sponsor. Included in the post was a statement from the CEO of mTw, Lars Eiben; a translation appears below. "Our partnership with AMD was canceled by AMD on December 31, 2008. We were informed in time and thus we had the chance to start looking for other opportunities. AMD canceled their arrangement with mTw due to the economical situations, which as we all know is in a decline. We won’t be the only ones who are affected by AMD’s decision to cutback in eSports. I really regret this step by AMD, as we actually expected a long-term partnership with the company. Nevertheless, thanks to support from our remaining partners and the good work of our management, mTw will be well-prepared for 2009. We will try to continue our success in the future." It appears that mTw will be prepared to weather the storm despite the setback. This brings positive news not only for the teams and players under the mTw banner for a competitive 2009 season, but also to the many fans of the organization. Source: www.mymtw.com |

It's so sad to say that this is very true. Kudos to mTw, better times will come.
well said #21
#21 in an interview when mTw won WCG 2008, zonic said he will go back to school in January 2009 along with whimp. Not every pro CS players are high school/college dropouts.
#21, i know more people who are successful that didn't go to college then those who did
sorry to hear that mTw, its always been a strong top tier organization the community just needs to do what its always done, push through together and love the game.
2009 wont be a bad year by any means just because AMD is backing out on some teams, there is still plenty of foreign sponsorships and even american ones are still doing alright, don't over exaggerate the impact of a few sponsors backing out.
It's funny that you think that one of the largest and most well known computer parts companies terminating a sponsorship doesn't mean anything. In a few months you'll start to see nvidia and intell dropping them too, the economy is already feeling the heat in plenty of sections, and it's apparent that the computer market is crashing too.
