Garett "GRT" Bambrough blogs live from the ETS event in Montreal. Editor's note: The opinions expressed in this article are soley those of the author and do not reflect the opinion of GotFrag.com. -Editor I have never been good at writing blogs or anything for that matter since I do not use proper English and I love slang/jargon so for the fact that I will be covering certain aspects of ETS for GotFrag I will not change this. Adding on that point I will be doing interviews with some players which will barely be serious and will do some match recaps which yes will be somewhat professional and of course some blogs. The first day had barely anything to do with the actual LAN but needless to say the LAN is looking great like usual. ETS has always been a great LAN to attend and has over 600 BYOC spots and I heard they have had their budget slashed in half for this event and even so it's looking great. It obviously has the flaws like most LANs with internet problems and all that usual jimble jamble but lets be real which LANs don’t have problems? They fixed it by this morning and everything should be getting going and running smoothly soon. Not quite sure how the servers are going to pan out but that’s always a surprise. Oh and by the way this is the 2nd time I'm writing this cause the power went out when I finished and I'm obviously forgetting a lot of things and/or lazy now to type. Why am I covering this event? To tell you the truth I didn’t plan to do this but I was going to this event no matter what because I used to live in Montreal and I want to see friends I haven’t seen in a long time… and for anyone who has been here the city is amazing (got some stories for you later). I wanted to play in this event to get back in touch with the LAN feeling of 1.6 and to get better since I am now coming back to active status in 1.6 but all the teams had 5 and every pug I tried to make crumbled. I will probably play a lot of pubs and stuff while I am here on LAN and get some scrims in. So like I said, I will be doing a few match recaps along with daily blogs and maybe silly interviews. If you guys have any questions you want to ask the top 1.6 teams that are here give me a shout or just silly questions in general then msg me in #idemise or #gotfrag my alias is iDemise\Grt. Going to these types of LANs make you remember why you got into gaming in the first place. I walk around and I find myself watching lesser known teams and just people playing other type games for fun because it shows how much they play for the love of the game instead of trying to win money. At least 90 percent of the teams here know they will not win but instead come to improve and have fun while trying to place as high as they can and those days were lost for me for a while. But seeing these random I think it's COD4 guys yelling as loud as they can every time they win a round is funny and shows how much they love to play and be a part of esports… even if its just a round in a scrim, which it was since the tourney hasn’t even started. That is another underlying reason I wanted to come to help rekindle the passion for playing. After watching KODE5 and seeing all the players you have played for years and coming to this LAN and not being able to play makes me that much more motivated to play and get to that level again which hopefully I can. Side story from the first day (non cs related): Wtf is a toonie? Clown coming up to me with a confused face thinking he got ripped off. “Garett the hell is this? Did the guy rip me off I gave him 5 bucks” I look down and notice he has 2 toonies in his hand and has no idea what the hell it is, and for you Americans that don’t know what it is… it’s a 2 dollar coin. Needless to say we all cracked up and was probably one of those moments where u had to be there... I will hopefully get some pictures for you guys so you can see what the event is like, but for now picture… wait nah I cant explain it, just imagine 675 byoc spots and guys just waiting to get smelly and picture a lot of good looking girls because these lans never upset in that department (love you Montréal) |
