Counter-Strike: Dreamhack Summer 2009 Preview

Group D

Fresh off a boot camp at Inferno Online in Stockholm, all eyes will be on EG this tournament to see if they've finally clicked. Having shown a mediocre performance at KODE5 where they almost knocked SK out of the tournament in the first round, EG will hopefully have fixed a lot of their issues at their boot camp and be out for blood at this tournament. They drastically need to revamp a few of their strategies as well as make some adjustments on their positioning on both sides of the map. Regardless of the improvement at the boot camp, expect this team to come out at the top of group play unless the Norwegians prove too strong. If things are finally clicking for the star studded roster look for them to finish 1st or 2nd overall. Although many feel EG making a run to the finals is inevitable, don't count out the other top tier competitors at Dreamhack.

With a new roster that is supposedly stronger and more determined than the previous one, Norwegian team, Alchemists, will look to improve on their unexpectedly strong perforamance at ESWC Asia. Having dropped their Swedish player and moved to an all Norwegian lineup, this team is somewhat of an unknown quantity. While they did well at ESWC with their previous roster, having taken out WeMadeFOX, it is hard to tell if that success will translate over to a mostly European tournament. Their matchup with EG will determine who takes the group and it should be a very exciting match to watch. This team will make it out of group play and possibly into the semifinals; anything less for them will just prove their ESWC performance was a fluke.

Fairly unknown on the international LAN Scene, this team is a complete wildcard. While they could potentially throw big upsets as the more skilled teams will know little to nothing about the team, it is likely that they'll be knocked out early. This team will likely put up some rounds against whoever qualifies through the BYOC but it's unlikely they will come out of group play and will either finish 1-3 or 0-4.

Wild Cards

With over 30 teams already registered for the BYOC and a Maximum of 64 teams in the tournament the final four Wild card slots could be many different teams. Having glanced over the list of registered teams which can be seen here, the four final slots for the pro tournament will most likely go to SPEEDLINK, Esport-EU, Warlords, and Delta Esports. There is a lot of hype surrounding the Swedish female team Pink Zinic, however, it is not forthcoming to see them in Group Play.
