Counter-Strike: ESEA Match Preview: EG vs GG

By: Robert Jacobs - Published June 28, 2009 at 2:56 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Tonight EG will take on GG in a double header as EG has begun playing the matches they missed while they were in Europe.
GotFrag.com - With Team Evil Geniuses back in America they will be meeting up with Gravitas Gaming on de_nuke to play their week 5 match, they will also be meeting on de_train for a week 7 match. The two maps will be played back to back tonight in a doubleheader.

While GG has been showing poor performance with the lack of their in game leader Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol, who is on vacation out of the country, team EG will also be playing with a ringer as Matt "Warden" Dickens is also out of the country. For this week GG will be using Matt "Patoyojon" Iantosca and EG will be using Storm's younger brother ministorm.

As this season has played out, it has become more and more apparent how big goodfornothing is for the GG team, with that being said EG will be coming into both of these maps with the advantage. The first map they will be meeting on is de_nuke, which has been a notoriously bad map for team EG dating back to the core's time with compLexity. Keeping that in consideration, the team was able to take down Dynasty earlier in the week with a scoreline of 16-10. For EG standards it was not a big win, however playing with a ringer can often interrupt chemistry as GG has shown almost all season. On the flip side GG was devastated by coL on de_nuke with a scoreline of 16-1.

Considering previous results and that both teams are utilizing ringers the map could go either way, but the advantage is for EG. My prediction for this map is 16-9 in favor of EG with storm (.808 FPR) and fRoD (.872) leading the scoreboard. For GG look for impulsive (.716) and thoMz (.699) to be leading the way.

The second map of this doubleheader match up will be de_train. When thinking about train, the first thing most people think about is teamwork and AWPs, to win this map teamwork is extremely necessary on the T side. Without their strat caller goodfornothing, this map will be extremely difficult for GG. EG will also be lacking somewhat in the teamwork area without their normal starting five. However, EG still has their strat caller which should be enough to give them the map. Look for hostile (.686) to be leading for Gravitas as he traditionally features a strong AWP on train. For EG look for fRoD and storm to potentially both AWP and look for n0thing (.768) to be a menace for GG with his strong rifle play. This map should go in favor of EG 16-7.

While EG has already qualified for the LAN finals GG is currently in a situation where they need one more win to seal their spot, look for them to be hungry with the potential if they take the first map to use that momentum to take the second one. Regardless of the outcome this should be an exciting doubleheader between some of America's best players.
