Counter-Strike: ESEA-I: Meet Gravitas

By: Brett Sheffield - Published July 23, 2009 at 6:09 AM EDT - Writer Archive
With the ESEA-I Playoffs just around the corner, GotFrag gives you an inside look on the teams attending.
It's finally that time. For the first time in ESEA's history, it will be hosting the Invite division playoffs on LAN. This ups the challenge just a bit more for teams who do not regularly LAN. The event will kick off with a bunch of fun "skill" games between the teams. It will then move on to a best-of-three double elimination bracket.

So without further interruption, lets find out about our first team:

Team Name: Gravitas Gaming
ESEA-I Place: Sixth
ESEA-I Record: 8-8
LAN Events: IEM, KODE5, ESL, x3o, and WCG Quiver Shoot-Out
Gravitas

United States Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol
United States Ben "ben[st]" Hui
United States Derrick "impulsive" Truong
United States Shaun "Hostile" Catron
United States Thomas "thoMz" Garcia

The team will be playing eMazing Gaming in their first match up for the LAN Playoffs. eMg recently placed second at the Pre-ESEA LG and fourth in the invite division.

This is one team that has had a little trouble during the season. They ended up playing most of the season as a pug because their in game leader, Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol, was gone on vacation. Gravitas opted to use Striker as their fifth to fill in the absence of Basol. Although he was a good addition, Gravitas did not have the outcome they were hoping for. They still managed to get a berth into the playoffs with a 8-8 record in the regular season. The team recently showed up at the WCG Quiver Shoot-Out with only a couple weeks of practice after a long hiatus without goodfornothing, and placed second. This was a very strong showing in the teams ability to perform on LAN and the preparation they have been taking for the ESEA-Invite finals.

Gravitas is anything but unknown. Being one of the top teams in the US in the past few years, they have dominated their way through many tournaments. They were the American team for the KODE5 Finals last year as they beat out compLexity in the Dallas finals.

This event should be nothing different for them. With another week to prepare and coming off the momentum of a second place finish, beating out EG in New York, the team cannot be upset with the results they have had. Look for them to come out strong and be ready to take on anything that steps in their way as they shoot for the finals win.
