Counter-Strike: EM IV Dubai Group Preview

With the teams getting ready for competition in Dubai, GotFrag breaks down each group.

GotFrag.com - Twelve of the world's top Counter-Strike 1.6 teams gather in Dubai to face off for $25,000 and a chance at a spot in the global finals. This tournament will not play host to any American teams, however let it be known that this is a big European, Middle Eastern, and Asian showdown.

This event is a little different from those in the past. Normally we would have teams split up into four groups; each group battling it out with the top two advanced from each group. For this event, we have two groups of six teams that will fight for a top two finish in group play to advance on.

This means that four teams will not be able to make it out of group play with the loss of a third group. Even more is on the line this time as teams must fight to the top of six team groups to remain alive into bracket play.

Group A

Sweden fnatic - cArn, f0rest, dsn, GeT_RiGhT, GuX
South Korea WeMade FOX - glow, solo, garsia, bail, termi
Germany Alternate - approx, mooN, paN, roman, Roman R.
Sweden MYM - zet, jumppy, pita, delpan, moddiii
Ukraine KerchNET - lmbt, craft1k, kucher, starix, VADIK
United Arab Emirates Assassins List - Doomsder, Gr1mmjaw, sticker, UKB, ztara

This group is one to talk about. With Fnatic, WMF, Alternate, and MYM in the same group, we will see a huge pit of skill vying to get first and second place. All of these teams have the talent to be able to make it out of group play, each faced with having to play each other. The other two teams, KerchNET and A.List, will be hoping for an upset, but we don't see that happening. Fnatic and Alternate should be the two to make it out and into bracket play, but don't count MYM and WeMade FOX out. Anything can happen. Fnatic will be coming out hungry after suffering a loss to SK in Chendgu, they have to be hungry for revenge.

Expected to advance: fnatic, Alternate

Group B

Sweden SK Gaming - walle, allen, RobbaN, face, kHRYSTAL
Poland Vitriolic - TaZ, kuben, loord, LUq, Neo
Germany mousesports - cyx, gob_b, Kapio, Tixo, cash
Kazakhstan k23 - AdreN, anv1k, MihaO, N1ck3L, Turbo
Russia Virtus.pro - ROMJkE, Dio, LeX, dingo, hooch
United Arab Emirates Impulse - havoK, JAP, lex, Sak, whMsy

This group definitely has some talent. With SK coming off a huge win over Fnatic in Chengdu, they are pumped. Their two new roster pickups are something that has pushed them to a new level. The only problem will be sustaining that level of play amongst these competitors. Two other teams to talk about in this group are Vitriolic(ex-WICKED) and mousesports. Mousesports was knocked out rather early in bracket play vs TyLoo in Chengdu and did not have that well of a showing. They have the talent to go on and beat most teams in their group, but some might be a challenge. Vitriolic is finally competing in a big international tournament and they are hungry for a win. After awhile without an organization to call home, they have support behind them. With Neo leading the charge, they should give SK some serious competition, but that might be their only competition.

Expected to advance: SK, Vitriolic
