When a player joins a team, most people see the addition of that player as simple math, four plus one now gives us five. If only it was that easy. Most new additions end up turned away or complete failures with their new team based on many factors. One of the most important factors is the strats and his position inside of the team. NoA’s recent addition forces us to look at who really is Devon “destructo” Domercq. ![]() ![]() NoA’s recent addition forces us to look at who really is Devon “destructo” Domercq. Not just who he is, but also how does he fit into and improve a team that was only a few rounds away from a CPL Championship. Let’s get the question of his ability out of the way first. ![]() Beyond his incredible LAN history in California his stats from the past season of CAL-I are no joke either. Combining the screenshots collected over the current season 10 of CAL-I, he receives an average of 1.156 FPR (Frag Per Round). Most see this number and understand that it’s impressive, but how truly impressive is hard to gauge. Let’s take this comparison out to one of destructo’s future teammates, Method. When Method played in WEW during one of their hottest stretches in CAL-I, which included a win over soon to be CPL Champions 3D, he posted an FPR just over 1.000. Not only did destruco beat this number but he improved on it. More stats yield similar impressive numbers including a 253/128 mark over 10 games for a 1.977 frags to deaths. His death totals also showed his impressive ability to survive and carry on into the next round with an average of 12.8 deaths per game and 0.584 DPR (Deaths Per Round). With all of that said you have to expect a dip in this product when introduced into a lineup like NoA’s. He simply won’t have as many opportunities for frags surrounded by these player. Still, NoA can expect him to excel at his position but what changes will they have to make at key maps to accommodate this new player? ![]() Let’s start at the biggest key map of them all, de_dust2. Championship time rolls around again, destructo’s impact will need to be mixed with that of his new teammates. For Rival, destructo dominated Bombsite A acting as a safety valve. He often rotated from catwalk to long A depending on if he was able to obtain an AWP. Either Colt or AWP, it really didn’t matter as he often made the plays needed to win rounds. In this match against Cyberglobe for the euphNET LAN Finals, destructo finished with an insane 27-2 score on the CT side showing unbelievable skill. Beyond the individual performance, his timing in Bombsite B was incredible. At least four times he made important re-entry frags as Rival looked to retake the site and defuse. One time even included a 3v1 where he took out different Cyberglobe members on different locations throughout the bombsite. Now for the bad news, after looking at NoA’s play against SK.swe on de_dust2 one problem becomes apparent. bsl, the player destructo will be looking to replace, played the middle acting often as support for Shaguar who played inside of bombsite B. This may cause NoA to make their first transition to their new player. Destructo’s skills at retaking Bombsite B and dominating the normally very effective timed rushes (catwalk/long A simultaneous attacks) makes him invaluable in Bombsite A. A simple solution could depend largely on Method who played long A for NoA. If he could transition to the middle spot putting his very effective AWP on the middle and support of Bombsite B, this could improve the entire team’s effectiveness on this map. ![]() Destructo’s play on our next map de_inferno was less spectacular but still effective. With a 14-8 mark on the CT side he still manages to challenge for the scoring lead on Rival but he didn’t seem to fit perfectly with how Rival wanted to play the map. His right middle position often put him in tough spots supporting hallway rushes, which isn’t one of his strongest suits. Destructo seem to perform better pushing right and supporting banana rushes often showing similar excellent timing on when to attack as he did in Bombsite B on de_dust2. While destructo didn’t fit in for Rival he could be a much better fit for NoA who played bsl in almost a similar situation. bsl’s original spot was right in support of Method but because of the crazy skills of this American player, they often left him alone in this site. By leaving him alone this allowed bsl to cheat over and play right middle a similar position that destructo played. This would benefit NoA in two ways. It plays to the strength of destructo who likes to retake/quick support bombsites and also with three guys inside of the primary bombsite already there will not be as much pressure on destructo to advance on that site when hallway rushes take place.
