Counter-Strike: elemeNt Interviewed

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published April 23, 2004 at 11:50 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Now that the dust has settled in his move from SK to NoA, I had the chance to sit down with elemeNt and discuss his past with SK, current plans and his future with NoA. He even gets into Knoxville's social life, quite the entertaining read.

elemeNt: Note the new digs.
First of all, please introduce yourself to everyone.

Hello, I'm Ola Moum also known as elemeNt to many.

What was the biggest reason that you're no longer a part of SK?

Knoxville and several things which I disputed within the SK organization.

There has been a big deal made of your move, did you expect this much publicity and interest in all of this?

Gary has been hyping this up as much as he could do get as much publicity out of it as possible, and well... Good job Gary :o)

You currently live in Norway and attend school. What is the timetable to join the rest of your team in California and what do you expect of the experience?

Hmh. Around june sometime! When my exams are done. Expect lots of sun! Gettin a pink cadillac, crusin by the beach, checkin out girls.

A lot has been made of your strategic abilities and even team leadership skills. SK manager bds has mentioned in a recent interview that while early on you did a lot, recently you didn't do much of that for SK.swe. With you no longer being able to fill that role for SK, how much of an impact will your departure have on their team?

Well I don't totally agree with what he is saying, but if he is right they won't have a problem.

With SK threatening to take legal action on a possible breach of contract, how do you think this is going to reflect on competitive gaming and did you expect this much to come of it?

I still hope we can solve this in a professional way, and not go that way. None of the sides would earn anything from it, only bad PR. And money.

Do you have any regrets on a personal side leaving SK.swe, friends and other relationships?

Everyone in SK.swe have close bands with each other. I live in Norway, and I haven't established the same kind of relationship as the rest have, so no, I don't feel that bad about it. I have more anger for the SK organization rather than regrets.

they have element on contract. If they dont let him play they can breeze to 1st place. If the have to play vs him it could mean top 3.
Its a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake.

I'm glad element made the choice to leave sk, hopefully he will have a much better stay in NoA. No person should have to feel pressured like he did, you should be able to live your life how you want to. GL in NoA ola.

Has anyone else noticed t3h crappily photoshoped NOA hat and shirt symbol and that pciture?

As a fan of cs, i think this will be great for spectators. SK didnt really get any weaker (who knows they might get even stronger, being able to build more chemistry, and SpawN maybe taking his game to another level now that hes a full time starter).

NoA defenitely got stronger though, which should make for some great great matches when these two teams meet.

#18 lol it's impossible to look away from

too bad we gotta wait however long to see this lineup in action...

btw isn't this team totally something that would get put up on a gotfrag forum "post your dream lineup" type thread? i mean before the whole NoA and Adren[GX] imported players concept came about who would have actually thought a team like was possible?

#7 If you're referring to before they had elemeNt, then that's really irrelevant. SK was a very quiet team before ESWC and CPL Summer 2003. They had won CPL Summer 2002, but this was way back -- when 3D had just formed, and the competition was nowhere near where it is today. If SK didn't have SpawN, they'd be in major trouble, I think. However, with their showing at WCG and all matches with SpawN, this shouldn't create a problem, but I'd push forward in all legal aspects of this contract. What elemeNt did was just wrong.

21, because it seemed that cs is their life and you cannot relax around them? plus it doesnt seem as though they were friends. seeing as though it is a GAME, one should probably PLAY with people they like so as to keep it what it was intended to be, a GAME that one PLAYS for FUN

Ya know, I think when you sign a contract where they pay you to play video games, you have to follow that contract, even if you don't like playing all the time on weekends.

Bummer he didn't like it, but it seems like SK would be in a strong legal position w/ a signed contract. Of course I don't know the wording of the contract...

exactly noone knows what was in his contract... with a good lawyer i guarantee he can get out of it... I agree if he didnt enjoy playing for sk then why play with them.. Sure he won alot of money but if your not happy then leave. I think its sad for sk to do this they should just let it go seriously

None of the sides would earn anything from it , only bad PR . And money.. Thats not true, if you break a contract thats very serious and you have to take the consequences. And to break a contrast is very serious within jurisprudence.
