Written by Chris "bootman" Boutté Introduction to The Titans Playbook The Titans have come a long way in the past year. After being counted out for quite some time, they are finally making a comeback. After winning a CPL Qualifier as well as their ESWC Qualifier to represent their country of Denmark in the ESWC World Finals, they gained a lot of respect. What happened at the ESWC World Finals was not expected by anybody, and this was The Titans walking away with the gold after a very well played tournament. The Titans brought a lot of new tactics to the tournament as well as incredible gameplay from the entire lineup. The Titans have reinvented defensive formations on many maps, which has really been throwing their opponents off guard during most of their matches. One of the most notable tactics has been their defensive side of de_dust2 that impressed many and really made one rethink how this side of the map is to be played. In this playbook, we will go over de_dust2, de_nuke, de_inferno, and de_train. Unfortunately, due to a lack of demos and The Titans being a European team, we did not have the capability of covering their tactics on important maps such as de_cpl_mill and de_cpl_fire. Learn from The Titans' new style of play and how successful it is, but also pay attention to their weaknesses that may or may not cost them important matches at the Summer CPL 2004 event. But most of all, enjoy! |

they only won the worlds most random event ever.
ps: bootman is loosing all of his hair.
i think the observatoins about tt's habit of using some weird and over-optimistically aggressive setups were particularly pertinent. it'll be interesting to see if they can repeat their performance at eswc where they basically won on some extremely clutch plays - it'd be hard to rely on that thru a longer comp i'd say.
i´m sure if a swedish team had won, you wouldn´t call it the "most random event ever". so do all of us a favour and show some respect instead of being c0cky and arrogant.
But then again they walked through lower bracket eventually winning the online cup so there.
Great article, just wonderful! Bootman's playbook is the best that have happened in over a year here at GotFrag?!
They have the positions!
f.eks most of the time Eraz will join up egene inside on Train, and not so often outside by Drally, only when they expect a rush on alley? i gues :)
gr8 article, keep the writing up :)
Nicely spotted with the de_inferno tacs, I still don't get why Drally is covering that site, he would be so amazing in middle. Aw well.
One thing there is to say about TT, is SIMPLE T-side tacs. Mostly anyway. Besides that, don't count too much on those "standard" tacs, they are good at switching tacs, and making up new ones IN THE MOMENT.
Besides about two months ago, they often did a boost to the ledge in middle, in dust2, the ledge above the middle double doors, to surprise offensive catwalk CT players.
Other than that I think it's a very well written article, and some WELL-documented arguments, and I'm sure KK could get more than enough out of this, to maybe correct some of the errors in his otherwise pretty solid, and clever tacs.
Last thing I want to say is, that TT is probably also on of the best clans in the world, to take advantage of EACH players STRONG sides. E.g. eGene on de_train. He covers that hallway above b-site VERY WELL. More than often he takes down 2-3 guys before going down himself. eGene is also well known in Denmark for his amazing backstabbing, and read of the game... offensive CT play IS eGene's STRONGEST feature. He's one of the best at it... anyway that was all I had to say for now. :)
#33 i find the train tactic very interesting and probably think it would work a lot better if the inside player played more defensively and had some sort of swift backup. If he pushes up to the stairs every round it puts a lot of pressure on him to get some kills and if he doesn't the inner site can be taken in a 5v1 or even 5v0. they run a great de_train, but once teams realize how they are setup, it won't be so pretty.
and you guys are not reading the titans CT tactic if you think 3D has been running it. like #36 said, u are thinking of 3D setting someone up on the lower part of the long A ramp for a spot and then flashing the terrorists from the ramp to get backup from long A. the most important part of this tactic is seeing how much pressure is taken off of the two B players as they only have to focus on one entryway.
Good articale! MORE OF THIS! :D
