Counter-Strike: The Flashbang Heard Round the World

Mark "Jesuit" Cheben wrote this article from the CPL about the conterversy surrounding the NoA, EYE match.
The CPL home to controversy and broken dreams has another drama to add to its illustrious list. The upper bracket match between EYE and NoA has turned from a solid NoA victory to a decisive defeat following a rules violation. NoA, the team who did not know how to flash-bug nuke at EVERLAN, has run into another problem with the infamous floating box on nuke. Initially NoA won the first half 9-6, but upon review the admins discovered that on the 8th round NoA threw three bugged flashes resulting in all the rounds including and after were awarded to EYE. Upon this adjustment EYE was awarded the half 10-5.

This is due to a new CPL rule which states:
9.00k Any competitor or team accidentally utilizing ANY exploit or bug in a map or game will forfeit that round and all remaining rounds for the half. Players need to be responsible for their actions in regards to know map or game bugs/exploits.

EYE went on to take the match 16-8 after a 6-3 second half. Following the match both teams looked dejected reflecting on the fact that neither team had really won or lost. It’s a shame this new CPL rule had to be showcased in such a way, and hopefully NoA can recover in the rest of the tournament.

This is truly not the fault of NoA, EYE or the CPL. This was an accident that resulted in an advantage for NoA in the round in question. So, the ruling by the CPL is the correct one. This begs the question as to why has Valve, after all of these years not fixed this issue? This is one of the first times where this could result in a difference between winning a major event and not. The monetary difference that NoA could see is huge. They very well would have one this match and possibly the event if it were not for this bug in the map, that has been known about for as long as I can remember and I have been playing a long time. It is unfortunate, and I hope Valve will take notice and do something about it.
