Counter-Strike: Bootman's GamerCo, EYE Wrapup

By: Chris Boutté - Published December 18, 2004 at 8:31 PM EST - Writer Archive
The top two seeds finally met up with each other in the upper bracket finals. This was a highly anticipated match that didn't go quite as planned for team GamerCo. Come inside for bootman's analysis of the match.
The upper bracket finals pitted the top two seeds against each other: EYE and GamerCo. This looked like it was going to be a great match, with EYE's passive European style of play meeting up with GamerCo's fast paced West Coast style. Unfortunately, the match did not live up to expectations.

EYE played with a very passive setup commonly used by many European teams on the defensive side of de_train. In the outside site, the alley player has a colt and plays far back near the 5-train area, and another player is usually positioned in the tower. The ladder player was an exception to this passive style, though; he was very aggressive when covering the ladder room and kept it flashed at all times. The inside site was also played with a very European style, with both players playing very far back. One played top ramp and the other covered low ramp, playing far back near spawn with an AWP. This right here, folks, means free money for the terrorist team, but GamerCo did not seem to grasp that concept.

I'll paint a picture for all of you who missed the HLTV. GamerCo went outside and got mowed down. Next round GamerCo went outside and was mowed down. The next round after that one, GamerCo went outside and got mowed down. And finally it clicked for them and they went outside one more time...and got mowed down. All of GamerCo was looking at each other in confusion, saying, "I don't get it, how are we losing?!". Well, as you can see, it was pretty obvious.

GamerCo went inside ONE time, ladies and gentlemen. One solitary time. They went on a save round and smoked the low ramp so the AWP couldn't pick them off, so they actually got the bomb down. For some reason that just didn't click for them, and they kept going outside. If a team is playing that far back in the inner bombsite, you can smoke upper and toss a couple of smokes lower and just keep planting round after round until the defence decides to play aggressively with colts. It makes sense!

The next half GamerCo managed to win pistol round and the two following rounds, but EYE used a great tactic in the first gun round to throw GamerCo off their momentum. EYE simply outplayed GamerCo and it showed.

Now EYE is waiting to see who they play in the grand finals, and that team will have to beat them twice to claim the number one spot at this CPL.
