Well I just got home from the lan in Fishersville, Virginia and had a blast. It was ran rather smoothly (minus one admin error in a match) and was overall a good time.

The guy that ran it, Ranger, was a little disappointed in the turnout considering how many teams had verbally committed. He was predicting 18 teams but only 8 showed. However, I want to make note that the $2000 prize pot that was PROMISED was payed out in full. Each team was charged $250 (50 a person) to play in the tournament and ALL of that went back into the pool. The top 4 teams broke down as:

1. Pandemic ($1500 and 5 cases)
2. GoingPostal ($500)
3. Stormakt Pug (naught_ and buddies :P)
4. Vulpine, WTR and buddies

The tournament was run as your standard double-elimination... winner / loser bracket setup with the final being bo3. There were 3 nice cases that were raffled, a power supply, and a ton of t-shirts and other memorabilia. There were also a few mini-tournaments (2v2 awp and a midnight redlight pub) that were ALL focused around source. Ranger is doing all of this because he is trying to "breath some life into the source community" as he says. This tournament completely and totally revolved around source and, I think, did exactly that.

He said they are going to do another one next summer and possibly even one in the winter. Again, everything will be about source. The LAN is right at the crossing of I-81 and I-64 so the travel isn't bad (pandemic came mostly from chicago-wisconsin area...). I encourage everyone to attend these future lans and help Ranger complete his goal of revitalizing source.

-Brandon

And, on a more personal note (specifically to mah buddy phiL), don't get pissed off when I scream and talk crap during the match. It's part of the fun of the whole thing :)

I would like to personally thank everyone that attended our PCGN Summer Fragfest.
I am Scott, (GameHandle: Fire488[COWA]). I am one of the owners at PCGN.
Some mistakes were made along the way, but were resolved immediately in a very calm manner. Overall, the LAN was a complete success.
The_Ranger[COWA] deserves a lot of the credit for that due to the endless hours that he put into this. This event would not have happened without him.
Another reason for the LAN’s success has to do with the quality, not quantity of the people that showed and played there: you. You all made this a success and we at PCGN would like to thank you for that. I witnessed southern hospitality at its finest while in attendance.

We will be thanking the sponsors and teams on our forums for their contributions to the success of the LAN. We are going to be hosting more events in the near future and I will keep you up to date on that.
The PCGN Summer Fragfest will be an annual event so check the forums for updates.(with the permission from GOTFRAG of course)

I would like to thank everyone that attended on behalf of PCGN and my partners, ED[COWA] and Manowar[COWA].

Thank you and see you soon,

Was a great first lan experience for me and drAgon and first time going to a lan as a team. Ranger was a great admin and did his best to make everyone happy despite some stressful situations. Overall I would love to see alot more teams next year and hope to attend again. :)

Even though not having played this game in months, and the last minute addition to the gp roster, I had a blast! Loved meeting my old teammates and all the other counter forcers. One thing that had me really digging this lan was that the admins actually would listen to the players about ideas/concerns for the up and coming events. The drive from Florida was well worth it. Thanks boys.

My team went to this and came back with a sponsor. What the heck?

A friend just linked me to this thread, all I can say is....WOW!!!!!!

Thanks you guys for the good reviews, and thanks for being great guests. I know it is hard to put your trust in any kind of new organization, and I applaud those of you who made the long trip to the unknown.

As Fire488[COWA] stated the real thanks goes out to those who were in attendance. I merely paid the rent and opened the doors, you guys are the ones that showed up and played the game.

With that being said I give you this promise here and now, as long as I am part of this event, it will never be focused on padding my pocket. As stated above, my sole intention for this event was to give those in the Source community something to look forward to once again. I know times are rough for the game, but I would like to keep the good times rolling as long as I can.

We are however discussing the option of opening up a TF2 Tournament in the next event as well. For the simple fact that there were only a few players there who played the game, and some of them were disappointed that there were not enough people to get a good pub started. This Tournament will most likely be a free to play, cash prize tournament. ( I will throw in a set $$ amount for every team that attends)

On a side note, to alleviate the stress of having to last minute schedule matches, we will adopt a "3 man prepay" policy for future events. The prepay is only $15/player, so it shouldn't be to hard to get 3 members to prepay. This will allow us to more accurately estimate the number of teams, and plan a schedule that works.

I am hoping the next event can get over 16 teams, 20 would be nice too :-)

ranger are you the new jersey guy? or is that fire?

anyhow, gg to all.. good people running the LAN, wont screw anyone over, only delays were due to pc's having a few issues that didnt take long, a few teams being late, and a match issue that got resolved.

we did well being the first event for the team, first even for 2 people, and picking up that last minute 5th. no shame on a 2nd place to ex-pro players, they were good guys, played well and were respectful to everyone.

everyone at the lan was cool except for a few that thought it was the place to talk big for no reason at all, then get sent home without saying a word. to those few, be chill like the rest of everyone and make some friends... dont be dick heads for no reason.

a few ghosting issues by a few people also, when they were told not to, they cried about someone not enforcing ghosting rules, so they should do it.. which they were the ONLY ones doing it. again, dont be downies.

thats probably the only thing the lan needs next time, admins sitting behind teams to stop ghosting.. since they cant show respect and not do it to begin with, even when the rules were openly discussed over mic at the start.

gg to all

What was the admin error #1?

#20

I was the admin who made the error.

When I prepped each server for a match, I restart the server, exec source tv config, change map, exec match config then start recording the tv demo. In this particular instance I was trying to prep two servers at the same time, and forgot to exec match config on this particular one. While I was busy trying to get the teams for the second match ready I was informed that stormakt vs jCp was ready for a lo3.

To make a long story short, there was a tk in the first or second round, which was followed by a tk punish (slay) in the following round.

it was an error on the two teams that played also, they started the match with a 3sec freezetime, tk punish, and never said wait wait.. this isnt right, lets restart.

they played the half, one team lost, then everyone started to complain about it.. both teams should of immediately stopped when freezetime was wrong though :/

"theduke"

talking sh*t is a part of the game and a huge part of lan. don't tell someone that "they only talk sh*t behind a computer screen" when they're sitting right in front of you.... you can't use online excuses and sayings like that on lan. I know you were a lan virgin and I find that cute, but now you should be a little more educated.

As far as leaving without saying anything, I shook everyone on your team's hand except yours because I had no desire to. If you would have pushed it, I would have showed you some level of respect even though there was really no basis for it. And, with the whole ghosting thing, no one on my team had played in a year and I was trying to help them relearn the game. Sorry I got a little carried away, but a captain sharing knowledge of the game with a rusty team isn't "ghosting". maybe the next lan you attend you can take everything you learned and apply it in an attempt to look less like an idiot. Finally, I made friends with about everyone at that lan except you... why in the flying f*ck would I want that....

Hope to see you at the next lan, pubber ;)

# 24 I think its kinda sad at the fact it was my first LAN and still had more knowledge on what and what not to do and ghosting being illegal while in f2b is one of them. Not only did you ghost while f2b was enabled through the entire round you were being a puppet master and telling your teammates HOW to play not allowing them to do your own thing. After Duke and an admin walked up to and told you guys you could only call one time after full black hits on f2b you guys questioned it and said "Oh now you guys are enforcing it?" If you would have payed attention to the guy on the stage (I think it was fire448) before the first match was played he specifically said that only call was allowed after f2b hits.

Dranged I was playing with friends who don't even play this game anymore. I was the only one on that team to touch the game in a year and still managed to take third. Meanwhile, I'll pretend like drAgon didn't carry ya'll all the way through. Props to him, hell of a player.

theduke: I went with them for fun and I had a ton of it. It was a blast yelling at you and calling you out in the middle of the round for sucking. You couldn't hit me in mid and I had a pistol while you had an AK. I was screaming "JESUS CHRIST I HAVE A PISTOL SHOOT ME YOU SCARED FU*K". Took a nade stack to finally kill me. I HOPE to see you in December when I bring a real team and mop the floor with your lanky, goofy ass.

stv demos coming soon!

Okay guys, this is how it is going to go down....

First off, how many teams are interested in a return trip this December?

Second, I am going to offer a "sponsorship" of sort to the highest ranking return team (highest placement in previous LAN) Basically I am going to pay your buy in, all you will need to pay is the door charge.

Third, for future events, we will be going with a "Three man prepay" policy. If you want to reserve your teams seat in the tournament you will need to have at least 3 members prepay ($15)

Fourth, prepay will be shut down two weeks prior to the event so that I have time to come up with a working schedule.

Fifth, I had some complaints about teams being sent home on day one. I will do my best to make sure the bulk of the teams make it to day two this time around. Now if we end up having 20+ teams I will have to narrow that down some on day 1, due to time constraints. BUT keep in mind, just because you are eliminated from a tournament, it does not mean you have to leave. I had actually planned a few more mini tourneys but since a few teams left as soon as they were eliminated there were not enough teams to make them worth while.

I had a great time, although you guys kept me busy as hell the entire weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

p.s. I dont discriminate, I hate everybody equally! lol j/k

Hopefully I'll be able to participate next December.

Keep an eye out for more info. I will make you guys a deal. If 20 teams show up to the next event, I will add a 1k bonus out of my pocket to first place prize pot. We will keep the 60/30/10 pot split, so payouts with 20 teams would be.... $4000/$1500/$500

And just a fair warning, there has been discussion of the possibility of a Major sponsorship deal, which would include hardware and additional cash prizes.
