I have been getting alot of choke and fps drops lately can this be the problem?

I have a Quad core amd phenom 9650 running at 2.3ghz with 4gb of ocz reaper ram never had any problems until now.

its probably reading the multiple cores and adding that up for some reason. not recognizing hardware correctly.. check for any drivers or bios updates for your cpu/mobo

Try going to the hl2.exe process and setting the affinity to only 1 CPU core.

Probably because you bought the AMD phenom and Valve hates you. Or maybe your cheats are running slow.
