Counter-Strike Source: EverLAN sees first controversy

By: Marc Turner - Published January 21, 2006 at 3:48 PM EST - Writer Archive
Most big tournaments have some form of controvery and EverLAN is no exception. This time all ends well for all parties involved.
In what was first ruled as a forfeit win for Team Ministry over Devastation, an agreement has been reached by the teams and tournament admins and the match will now be played. Devastation has been penalized 3 rounds for not showing up for their match at 8am local time due to a misunderstanding. The initial ruling by tournament admins was that all teams were expected to show up at 8am and in not doing so Devastation was to forfeit the match. Ministry then left the tournament area and the forfeit was reported. At 10:20am, Devastation arrived and was informed of their forced loss.

Although all teams were informed to be at the venue at 8am in the pre-tournament team meeting with EverLAN admins, Devastation believed thier first match to be at 10:20am. Devastation argued that the original time for the match had been 10:20am and the team had left the venue the night before with this schedule and had no way of knowing the schedule had been changed. Team Ministry argued that they arrived at the appointed time and should not be penalized valuble practice time by rescheduling the match. The debate over the forfeit became heated but in the end a show of good sportsmanship by Team Ministry and an understanding tournament admin allowed for the match to be rescheduled to noon local time.
