Counter-Strike Source: CAL-Invite Week 1.1 Predictions

Resident GotFrag staff Casey and Marlin give their predictions with Deppy of EFG helping out for the CAL Invite Week 1.1
CAL Invite SV 1.1 on Train
EF Gaming

vs

Visual Gaming

After another LAN victory under their belt, EFG still remains the team to beat. Visual Gaming, formerly known as Terror, is often accused of being 'online all-stars', but has nonetheless powered through lower divisions to win Main and earn an Invite spot. This first test will be their biggest, and despite their defensive start, EFG will welcome them to Invite with a loss.

Casey: EFG > VG 19-11
Enervate

vs

Project Circuit

After a move-down to Main for inactivity, ENE reorganized and by the good graces of CAL was given another chance in Invite. With an all-star lineup--though lacking the infamous DirtySecreT who is still serving his suspension--ENE is definitely one of the top contenders for the Invite championship and in my mind one of the few who may be able to take the title away from EFG. Project Circuit has remained a mediocre team throughout much of last season but has made some serious roster adjustments that will no doubt give them the boost they need to compete with the best in Invite. In a first true test for both teams, ENE will take this with the help of a defensive start on Train.

Casey: ENE > PC 18-12
Forbidden

vs

Devastation

Forbidden has always been a team that didn't like the limelight but has stepped their game up when it mattered. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, they upset numerous teams to make it to the Invite championships, placing second to EFG. Devastation, meanwhile, has been in the news lately. After the infamous 'I thought you had a ride' incident, the team nearly fell apart. Losing three of their top players, Devastation picked up old and new faces alike, and surprisingly seems to have a competitive roster. However, chemistry is earned and Forbidden, a stable force in Invite since its creation, will start the season off with a win.

Casey: Forbidden > Dev 19-11
Cardboard Robots

vs

Hyper!

Cardboard Robot's idea to drop three of their players for three Zomblerz players has seemed to weaken their team with a weak showing at PDX where those three players from zomblerz went with returning d5 member Misty and finished a disappointing 2-2. Though that might not seem to be disappointing for some people, my expectations for an Invite "pug" aren't that high but cbRtook 4/5 members to that tourney and still managed to only take down unknown team Srubs and Dead Edge Snipers. Hyper on the other hand seems to not have had that many talk about them as of late besides their moveup to CAL-invite. Hyper has many skilled players including maNtiK & Jibby, which should be able to take down Cardboard Robots without much effort.

Marlin: Cardboard Robots < Hyper! 11-19
verGe

vs

TEoS

verGe had a spectacular last season, moved up to CAL-invite from CAL-open then finishing the regular season undefeated but falling a little short in the playoffs. Though that shouldn't bother them as they have really set a image in many people's eyes ever since the NewEgg event where they took down PowersGaming. The Edge of Sanity is one of the better teams this season, suprisingly taking 4th place last season. The Edge of Sanity seems to be of the laid back teams in Invite, picking up friends and not taking it that seriously. I have not seen The Edge of Sanity practice lately besides pug scrims, but verGe has been on the ball with their practices.

Marlin: verGe > The Edge of Sanity 20-10
Eminence

vs

definitioN

Eminence, a name known very well since season one of CS:Source, and the CAL-Invite newcomers Definition, I've played both teams and both are worthy of the Invite competition, but I believe Eminence has the experience and the players to over take Definition in this early CAL-Invite matchup.

Deppy: Eminence > Definition 18-12
Wat? Gaming

vs

electrify!

Wat?, having picked up Lloyd Shaffer, is looking to have a good season, also I have played with some of the other wat members on LAN and I must say I was impressed. Last season of CAL when the old EF Gaming was in CAL-Main we were matched up against Electrify and we barely pulled out the win on de_nuke 16-14. Seeing how both of these teams have former EFG members (Lloyd Shaffer - Prescott Murphy) be sure to keep an eye on both of them knowing relatively how the other plays but in the end I'm going to say:

Deppy: wat? > Electrify 20-10
