Counter-Strike Source: Casey and Marlin's CEVO Source Predictions

By: Sean Casey - Published July 10, 2006 at 7:52 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Casey and Marlin go head to head in predictions for the first week of regular play in CEVO Pro Source.

The second season of the CEVO-Professional CS:Source league is starting. We didn't get to see much from the preseason matches as many teams opted to not play in them and either resulted in unplayed matches or forfeits. Teams who did practice those preseason maps will have the upper hand as they will be playing on those maps later in the season. This CEVO-P season has some teams who are not in CAL Invite and will allow those teams to show to everyone that they can participate at a higher level. This first match night in CEVO-P will matchup teams on the most skill based map in CS:Source: de_dust2.

CEVO Professional S2 1:1 - Dust2
definitioN

vs

Skull Gaming

With an offensive start and a previous win over definitioN under their belt, Skull should be able to gain momentum early in the match. Although definitioN will be no pushover, the teamwork and individual skill of Skull will give them a close win.

Casey's Prediction: definitioN < Skull Gaming 13-17

EFGaming

 vs

 Eminence

While both teams are very skilled and respectable, Eminence has been struggling with inactivity and multiple losses in CAL-Invite. EFG on the other hand, while not dedicating the amount of practice time as in seasons passed, still no doubt holds the title of 'team-to-beat' in this league. Although Eminence will be graced with an offensive start, the coordination of EFG will be too much to get anything rolling and the momentum will remain in EFG's favor throughout the match.

Casey's Prediction: EFGaming > Eminence 21-9

verGe

vs

The Edge of Sanity

VerGe is one of the popular teams in CS:Source and they for a good reason. verGe is currently having a fun time in CAL-invite, sitting at a 5-1 record with their only loss to VisualGaming. The Edge of Sanity on the other hand seems to be struggling, having only one win in CAL-invite out of their 4 matches.  This is The Edge of Sanitys first showing in CEVO as last season they had to drop out, this season they could show that CEVO-P last season could have went different with them in it, but they won't be showing that in this matchup.

Casey's Prediction: verGe > The Edge of Sanity 22-8

Hyper!

vs

Exploit 3

The Hyper squad has been revamped from members from the team make it bacon, is this change for the better or worse? We will find out right now in their first actual match since the move. Make it bacon made it past the CEVO-P Placement tournament without much trouble, winning both matches and finishing in the upper-bracket. Exploit 3 is a known name to the  Pacific teams, having won PDX just made them a bit more known to Central and Eastern players. Exploit 3 has a really activeroster as all their players play and practice everyday, which is what alot of teams need to do if they want to win this seasons CEVO-P money pot. Exploit 3 came out of no where and suprised many teams, but can they hang with with the top dogs?

Marlin's Prediction: Hyper! > Exploit 3 16-14

electronic Gaming evolution

vs

Forbidden

Newcomers electronic Gaming evolution, one of the only teams in CEVO-P this season that aren't in CAL-invite currently will try to make a name for themselves this season. In their first matchup they will play very well known team Forbidden, one of the oldest and stablest teams in all of CS:Source. I have had a chance to play eGe myself and from that experience I feel they have a chance in CEVO-P but their chances of beating Forbidden this early in the season seems unlikely.

Marlin's Prediction: eGe < Forbidden 10-20

Devastation

vs

Wat? Gaming

Devastation has changed their roster a bit since the last time they've started the season, where as wat gaming seems to have almost the exact same roster from their start of CAL. Roster changes are nothing new to the top CS:Source teams as it seems to happen daily. wat gaming has had some talks about going back to 1.6 and some negativity towards CS:Source in the past month, where as little has been heard of devastation. Devastations roster changes will hurt them here, and wat?should be able to take this even though they've been busy with their stardom to 1.6 fame.

Marlin's Prediction: Devastation < Wat? Gaming 13-17
