Counter-Strike Source: Valve offers Source for 360

By: poohead - Published October 24, 2006 at 1:58 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Source will soon be on your xbox.
Today Valve Software announced that the Xbox 360 version of its Source engine is being offered to developers. The Source engine debuted with Valve's own Half-Life 2 and has since been licensed for use in PC games like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and SiN Episodes: Emergence.

Half-Life 2 is scheduled to be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the first quarter of 2007, in a package that also includes the series' first two episodic content installments, as well as a pair of new games, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

[UPDATE] When asked if Valve was preparing to make the Source engine available as PS3 middleware, a representative of the company told GameSpot, "We're not currently working with Sony on PS3 middleware." While Valve is developing the Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2 internally, is co-developing the PS3 version with an Electronic Arts studio.

Condition zero was on xbox, not 1.6, it sucked on xbox cause there was too much auto-aim, the game was too laggy, and it's harder to aim with a controller for a game like that, and headshots were all luck, you couldn't have good aim and get good headshots cause the auto-aim made the bullets go to the body.

watup akuma long time no see buddy, wat you playin noadays. newayz yea it was cs:cz for the xbox and it pretty bad. graphics were horrible, u can't counter flashes, you can't wall people too well, hs are random, easier to spray and the list goes on. it was still fun and a good game to play but it does not compare whatsoever to pc. the new source for 360 should be interseting though, i can't wait for it.

all the 1.6 kids that come in here laughing about this are funny, because that they dont understand that the source engine is the next big thing. maybe they dont like source, true enough. but the 1.6 engine is so freakin old it is unreal. its called advancments in technology, i donno how often u guys upgrade your computers or whatnot. or if you even own an xbox. but halflife on xbox would rock. just like the majority of the games that they make, multiplayer however will lack in the percision that the keyboard/mouse gives you. Halo anyone? don't laugh because microsoft is utilizing an amazing system with an amazing engine. grow up.

#36 rofl the next big thing? valve should stick to buying good engines instead of making their own crap ones. Lets see how well the source engine is licensed compared to UT2k7 or doom 3 engines.

most of the games you can buy on steam dont even use the source engine. and the source engine still has the stutter problem. GG

#43 yes i forgot to mention its 2 years old, hardly the "next big thing" like you claim. ok lets compare it to doom3/ ut2k4/quake 3 all older than source yet less buggy and more successfull in terms of licensing.

and yes ut2k7 will stomp source like a tiny insect. im sorry but the source engine is the biggest pile of crap to be released in a long long time, why do u think the number of licenses sold is so low? . Anyone who defends it doesnt know anything about game engines or is just a valve fanboy.

#45 im sure u dont play 1.6. but what ever with that.

how is doom3 doing anyway? seems like it was pretty big for about 6 months or so.. ut2k4 has ALOT of HUGE tournments right now also. quake 3 is about the only game you mentioned that is still somewhat sucessful. also with that beign said talkin about less buggy engines? quake 3 is what.. from 1995? of course its gonna be less buggy. and also on that fact, your compairing the whole source engine to CSS. not the single person games which are on the source engine.
