Counter-Strike Source: Complexity Officially Goes Source

By: Marc Turner - Published January 19, 2007 at 6:37 PM EST - Writer Archive
The Syndicate officially announces the move to CS:Source.
USA (GotFrag) - In an official announcement by way of an article titled "The Evolution of Complexity Gaming", Jason Lake and his organization have announced the switch to CS:Source for the CS 1.6 squad. This announcement confirms what most people in the community have known for several days, coL is going Source.

Complexity has been one of the best known, respected and even feared Counter Strike teams in North America and the world for quite some time now. Complexity is the #1 ranked team in the GotFrag North America Rankings and recently slipped to #3 from #1 in the GotFrag World Rankings. The team placed first at WSVG ISC this past summer but dissapointingly did not make it out of group play at the CPL Winter 2007 Championship.

Speculation about which teams would switch games has been high since the announcement by DirecTV and CGS that the game of choice for CGS would be Source. 3D announced the switch this week along with roster changes and were added to CEVO Pro Source Season III. Several other top CS 1.6 teams followed suit over the next couple of days with Complexity added to the list of teams by CEVO but without an official response from the Complexity organization.

Complexity did announce roster changes earlier in the week with the announcement that Corey “tr1p” Dodd and Justin “sunman” Summy had been released from the squad and a few days later naming Ronald “Rambo” Kim and Marcus "zet" Sundström as the replacements for Dodd and Summy.

The following is an excerpt from the official Complexity announcement found at complexityclan.com:

Today, The Syndicate is officially confirming news that has been the subject of much speculation over the past few weeks. Today coL.cs is officially moving to Counter-Strike: Source.

...Our decision to switch our primary gaming squad to CS:Source is in no way suggesting we prefer the platform over 1.6. This move is about the future and what we believe needs to be done to take our organization and E-Sports in general to the next level.

More of the official announcement can be found here. Complexity takes on 1shot this Sunday, January 21st in CEVO Pro Source Season III. Stay tuned to GotFrag for full, comprehensive coverage of Complexity and all the teams and matches in this exciting season of CEVO Pro Source.

This is much like quake4 in 2006, people made the switch to earn the money that CPL offered, but as soon as the money was gone everyone left and went back to quake3 a 7 or 8 year old game if I am correct.

"You can either lead the way or play catch-up. You can either drive the bus or be chasing after it. We will miss playing 1.6 professionally very much, but choose to lead rather than follow. "

Yea they are so leading the way unlike all the other teams that switched to source a long time ago Even if you only consider the last few weeks only. They really look to be "following" more than "leading."

It's going to be a huge wakeup call when they find out the skill gap for the game is a lot smaller(bad for pro teams, especially one that just spent alot of $$ on high profile players like zet). That is honestly what I hate the most about CS:S. The game has less aspects for people to master, this in turns creates a very low skill cieling. It is hard to be motivated when you can't get much better than anyone else at the game. Although 1.6 was reaching that cieling, source already has it. There are less skills to master in source(if you argue differently you need to go jump off a cliff), which will make the game more boring to spectate, and ultimately teams will lose the will to practice. Honestly im also disappointed teams are going to let direcTV create a monopoly over the scene :/. I for one watched the first CGI at my teammates house and we were laughing our asses off about how cheesy it was(and did anyone see that promo?!). I really wouldn't have a problem with source if the skill gap was bigger, and wouldn't have a problem with direcTV if it wasn't presented 1) In an extremely corny and cheesy way 2) If they didn't own the players and make the sign exclusivity agreements and 3) If they didn't butcher the format that is best for the spectators and competitors.

america can't beat europe in cs 1.6 so they all goes source. now, then all americans play source, some america's teams will go to another game where they could win sth. Like chess. When all americans will play chess, some of them will go to another game. Like GTA. when all americans will play GTA, some of them will go roulette. etc etc etc

Good luck with Source.

CSP needs a lot of work before it can take over Source's spot, and that'll be awhile, but GL with that.

coL. sold out, too bad cs:source is boring regardless. There is an estimated 57,240 current counter-strike: source players (btw 95,517 1.6 players). So out of 57,240 cs:s players, how many of those do NOT play competitively, how many of those do NOT have DirecTV, and how many of those do NOT enjoy spectating matches off anything. Do the math, the idea won't go far and the professional counter-strike players will return. When source was first released, every team switched back in under a month. gg.

All games require the same amount of skill. The skill required to win in a game is only the amount of skill your opponents have. If source is "too easy" than your opponents are too easy.

In any case it's promod not source.

the end.... also why u 1.6ers in the source forums o_O make ur self comfy eh

Teams besides the top (CAL-Invite) are idiots for switching to Source if they do it for money. You won't win money. Sorry. "SOURCE IS WHERE DA MONEY AT YO"... yeah, for top teams, not 99% of the people who say this.

I enjoy Source, not as much as 1.6, but wouldn't mind quitting one. Whichever is more competitive.

#31...thats a very bold statement.

How does source take no skill? maybe in pubs it doesnt, but trying playing good teams and tell me its easy. The only other thing to master in 1.6 is wall spamming. I dont think the players care how bad or cheesy cgi looked because i can assure u a 50,000$ check looks a lot better.

#42 You clearly don't understand what a skill gap is. Although the game is "easier" for everyone the fact that there are not alot of skills to seperate you from the crowd is a bad thing. #47 I did not say it takes no skill, im just stating there are less actual talents or aspects of the game to master. This means that there is a lot less of a gap seperating those who practice a lot from those who don't practice at all etc.
