Counter-Strike Source: Intel: NightFaLL Profile

GotFrag's own eterniTy_ had the chance to speak with team Hyper's most outspoken player, NightFaLL.

Hello Jacob. To start off, can you give our readers a brief description of yourself?

Hi, my name is Jacob Stanton, I am 22 years old and currently live in Indiana. Right now I am playing CSS for team Hyper, and I have played Source for PowersGaming, as well as CoD for compLexity and United5.

What would you say is your most memorable gaming experience?

Easily my CPL wins in CS:S and CoD. The first CPL with CoD was probably the most memorable out of the two, simply because at the time we were not favored to win the entire tournament. I had built the team and made roster changes all the way up to the CPL roster lock deadline, which was only a month or so before the event.

We made it to the finals to play 3D.CoD with players like Wombat, Wiseguy and so on. At the time these players were big names in comparison to me, so I really felt like we accomplished something when we won that. That was pretty much the start of my 'pro gaming' career.

How about your most memorable match/moment in-game?

There are two that come to mind. My 1v5 against NoNamers at CPL with the bomb planted. I killed all 5 and defused in the fountain site on Inferno. The other would have to be against dRagonz at CPL as well. dRagonz was supposedly the best Euro team that came to CPL, they were all top 1.6 players that transitioned to source and were one of the few teams I was worried about at that CPL. We played them on de_cbble and we started T side. I had 19 TSide frags on Cbble and 27 frags overall with 131.4DAR against them. We won it16-3, this was in the Upper Bracket Quarter Finals so it was definitely a big boost going into our final matches at CPL.

Besides gaming what else do you like to do?

Well recently I started working again, I definitely have a lot of fun with the people I work with so I've been going out a lot lately and enjoying the fact I'm over 21.

I also work out 5 days a week now, I'm sure everyone has heard every fat joke possible that could be thrown at me, but I've been working out heavily for quite some time, so things like that don't phase me since I know how good of shape I've started getting myself into.

Other than that I attend Ball State University. My major is undecided at the moment, but I've been leaning towards either psychology or finance. We'll see how that goes.

Besides Counter-Strike, what other games do you play?

I play World of Warcraft occasionally right now; I've probably played every major game that's come out for PC at least a few times, while competing in a lot of different FPS's. Right now though, I really only have time for CS:S, so other than an hour or two of WoW a week I'm usually not gaming much.

Most people know who you are, but may not know where you came from. What's the story behind you going from a pubber to a competitive gamer?

Well I started out playing Unreal Tournament when I was 14-years old. After a year or so of playing I became one of the top CTF players in the game. At this point, I knew little to nothing about competitive gaming and LAN tournaments, I simply competed in the smaller leagues of our community.

I then moved on to Quake3/RA3, where I became one of the better RA3 players in the game and first started competing in CAL. The only teams I can remember playing for back then were Alley Beating and [DIxx].

After that I followed some other UT players to RTCW, where I attended my first LAN event at QuakeCon2003. I don't remember a lot about how well I played, but I know my team finished at the bottom.

I only played RTCW for about 6 months before Call of Duty came out. I jumped into it head first and it became the first game that I played from the start. I competed in it and won Summer CPL 2004. I then played 1.6 in CAL-I with Super and as a backup for United5 for a short period of time. I got somewhat bored with the repetitiveness of the top 1.6 scene, so I moved on to other games that I played for fun until CS:Source came out.

When CS:Source came out, I was planning on just playing semi-competitively, but once I was offered a paid leadership position on PowersGaming I took it up and never looked back. After many roster changes I felt that we had the roster I wanted, we went undefeated through our first CAL-I season and then went on to win Summer CPL 2005.
