GotFrag's own eterniTy_ had the chance to speak with team Hyper's most outspoken player, NightFaLL. ![]() Hi, my name is Jacob Stanton, I am 22 years old and currently live in Indiana. Right now I am playing CSS for team Hyper, and I have played Source for PowersGaming, as well as CoD for compLexity and United5. What would you say is your most memorable gaming experience? Easily my CPL wins in CS:S and CoD. The first CPL with CoD was probably the most memorable out of the two, simply because at the time we were not favored to win the entire tournament. I had built the team and made roster changes all the way up to the CPL roster lock deadline, which was only a month or so before the event. We made it to the finals to play 3D.CoD with players like Wombat, Wiseguy and so on. At the time these players were big names in comparison to me, so I really felt like we accomplished something when we won that. That was pretty much the start of my 'pro gaming' career. How about your most memorable match/moment in-game? There are two that come to mind. My 1v5 against NoNamers at CPL with the bomb planted. I killed all 5 and defused in the fountain site on Inferno. The other would have to be against dRagonz at CPL as well. dRagonz was supposedly the best Euro team that came to CPL, they were all top 1.6 players that transitioned to source and were one of the few teams I was worried about at that CPL. We played them on de_cbble and we started T side. I had 19 TSide frags on Cbble and 27 frags overall with 131.4DAR against them. We won it16-3, this was in the Upper Bracket Quarter Finals so it was definitely a big boost going into our final matches at CPL. Besides gaming what else do you like to do? Well recently I started working again, I definitely have a lot of fun with the people I work with so I've been going out a lot lately and enjoying the fact I'm over 21. I also work out 5 days a week now, I'm sure everyone has heard every fat joke possible that could be thrown at me, but I've been working out heavily for quite some time, so things like that don't phase me since I know how good of shape I've started getting myself into. Other than that I attend Ball State University. My major is undecided at the moment, but I've been leaning towards either psychology or finance. We'll see how that goes. Besides Counter-Strike, what other games do you play? I play World of Warcraft occasionally right now; I've probably played every major game that's come out for PC at least a few times, while competing in a lot of different FPS's. Right now though, I really only have time for CS:S, so other than an hour or two of WoW a week I'm usually not gaming much. Most people know who you are, but may not know where you came from. What's the story behind you going from a pubber to a competitive gamer? Well I started out playing Unreal Tournament when I was 14-years old. After a year or so of playing I became one of the top CTF players in the game. At this point, I knew little to nothing about competitive gaming and LAN tournaments, I simply competed in the smaller leagues of our community. I then moved on to Quake3/RA3, where I became one of the better RA3 players in the game and first started competing in CAL. The only teams I can remember playing for back then were Alley Beating and [DIxx]. After that I followed some other UT players to RTCW, where I attended my first LAN event at QuakeCon2003. I don't remember a lot about how well I played, but I know my team finished at the bottom. I only played RTCW for about 6 months before Call of Duty came out. I jumped into it head first and it became the first game that I played from the start. I competed in it and won Summer CPL 2004. I then played 1.6 in CAL-I with Super and as a backup for United5 for a short period of time. I got somewhat bored with the repetitiveness of the top 1.6 scene, so I moved on to other games that I played for fun until CS:Source came out. When CS:Source came out, I was planning on just playing semi-competitively, but once I was offered a paid leadership position on PowersGaming I took it up and never looked back. After many roster changes I felt that we had the roster I wanted, we went undefeated through our first CAL-I season and then went on to win Summer CPL 2005. How can he still be hanging onto his "Counter-Strike teams aren't multi-gaming talented" argument? The top two teams in the Counter-Strike USA scene have switched, and are currently ranked first and second in CEVO. The rest are still focusing mostly on CS, and aren't doing THAT bad.
Another thing he obviously doesn't realize is that Counter-Strike, for a lot of us, is the first FPS game we've played. What does he think, you're born with the muscle memory for moving a mouse? If he's such a talented, multi-gaming player, why didn't he do well in Counter-Strike? He's done good in low competition games, but lets see how well he does if teams from the EURO/Asian Counter-Strike scene switch over.
Also, if Counter-Strike: Source is such a great game, lets get the players that played Counter-Strike for years opinion of it. Probably, like most, think it's total shit, even after the "fixes".
Note: I played Counter-Strike since 1.4 (not that long) and played three seasons of Source.(switched back to 1.6)
Note: I think the EURO/Asian players wouldn't switch over.

I enjoyed reading this interview.
By the way NightFaLL, I live on Ball State campus.
Also. There are "only" four top 1.6 teams in source because... well... therent werent more than 5-7 good 1.6 teams in North America, and only three really "great" ones. (col/3D/EG - with JMC/Pandemic switching in and out with EG at various times)
It has barely even been that long and they are catching up to you warmachine. Your just afraid of the inevitable- and they have proven that the MORE difficult and MORE competitive pressures of 1.6 have prepared them well. If the European teams had an incentive to switch, Hyper would be getting rolled so often It wouldnt even br funny. You source guys dont know what a real competitive community is like. And the Source team from Europe you beat at CPL... they werent all that hot at 1.6 either.
All in all wait until CGS. coL will have risen so far above you at that point that you'll be happy losing by a close margin....
and nightfall is an idiot
But hey it only took him 3-4 years after high school to enroll in college
good interview jake
yeah how'd that work out nightfall
yeah.
"As for the 1.6 teams, I've said time and again that many 1.6 players are not multi-gaming talented. Most of them have played CS for 3-4 years before becoming a 'top' player in it. That's because it's not natural ability or 'talent', it's learned ability."
GL to both hyper! and NF!
He just admitted that he was wrong about coL replacing a player. He fails to pick up on that 3D are top 3 in CEVO and he also failed to pick up on the fact the teams that are not doing as well as some teams is because they are still playing 1.6 and Source at the same time. the fact that teams like JMC and EG can win or get 14 rounds on EFG is good enough considering that they have not crossed over to source completly. Lets also not forget that the only 2 major teams in the US from 1.6 are now top 3. Forget the other 1.6 teams, no one claimed they would own, they claimed that 3D and coL would own and they have.
I got somewhat bored with the repetitiveness of the top 1.6 scene, so I moved on to other games that I played for fun until CS:Source came out.
bored of sitting on that u5 bench, at what point exactly were you in the top 1.6 team nightfall?
(16:33:42) (@coL|fRoD[A]) he wasnt a u5 backup
(16:33:56) (@coL|fRoD[A]) his cod team was in u5 when i was in u5 cs
(16:34:10) (@coL|fRoD[A]) and i never played w/ him
(16:34:15) (@coL|fRoD[A]) and we had no 6th lol
lolz?
umm its almost MOSTLY true that people who tend to vote republican or democrat alWAYS DO IT
when u register to vote they ask u if ur republican, democrat, or independent (meaning ull vote for both parties)
but usually, if u voted republican for the last 4 presidents, u will probably for the next election no matter who the republican is
thats how it is with voters.... wow
also, when ur registered republican u cant vote in the democratic primaries, and vice versa
Ive played, CS 1.6, Source, Quake 3, Painkiller, and Quake 4 and Source is by far the lowest skill level community ive experienced. I'm sure everyone will attack my credibility but hey, i give my experienced opinion on the matter. Don't get me wrong source is FUN, but its not a great competitive game.
ive been a 1.6 competitor for years(along with other games), #41 is definately right tho
oh UT and quake3 RA are awesome, ill give him that
im gunna laugh my @ss off when col/3d steamrolls this kid on lan
