Check-Six releases its Counter-Strike: Source team and picks up the former Revolution Sports squad. Going into the weekend, Check-Six had secured the seventh seed in the upcoming NationVoice Source Championship and was scheduled to take on Hyper in the first round. But the community was given a surprise early Saturday when CEVO confirmed that Check-Six would be forfeiting the entire playoffs. The team had achieved recent success at the Buy CGS qualifier, placing third and earning a spot at the National Qualifier. However, according to the press release on the Check-Six website, a lack of dedication within the team despite their performance at the event led to the release. "Struggling to find time to practice due to issues outside of Counter Strike, CheckSix decided it was time to release the team and let the players work out their own agenda amongst themselves," states the website post. The future of the former Check-Six squad remains to be seen, but GotFrag spoke with a CGS admin who explained that as long as the team keeps four out of the five players that qualified, their spot in the National Qualifier is still valid. The admin went on to add that the same is true for the former rSports squad; as long as four of the five competitors are the same, a spot in the NQ awaits them. The team once known as the Zomblerz joined up with the Revolution Sports organization in February of this year. Under the new tag, rSports quickly rose in the competitive scene with strong play in CEVO Professional. A second place finish at the Buy CGS qualifier further pushed rSports into the spotlight. The future looked bright for rSports, but a day after placing fourth in the CEVO playoffs, the players parted with the organization. Team manager Chris “Fontaine” Davis shed light on the situation with rSports that led to the decision to join Check-Six. "Revolution Sports has been very good to us and I have nothing but good things to say about their organization and especially their staff. But they hit a temporary bump with their sponsors and could no longer make the same guarantees to us as they did initially, and when I asked them if they felt things would be turning around in the near future they said it didn't look immediately great, so reluctantly we had to start exploring options," Fontaine stated. Now with Check-Six, the squad will continue to pursue one of the four remaining Counter-Strike: Source spots in CGS. The new Check-Six roster is currently ranked fourth in the GotFrag North American rankings. |
