I really feel that a 1.6 player can be converted into a great Source player if he puts in the proper effort. One thing that is not replaceable in the transition is experience. I just feel that the 1.6 players that I have in my roster have a greater amount of collective experience than if I was to dip into the Source community right now. I also am more experienced with 1.6 players, that may just be my own ignorance but these are all guys that I have been around for awhile and I really enjoy working with. How do you rank this JMC alongside the JMC that placed third at CPL Winter 2005? (laughs) We were actually talking about that today, myself, David, and a few of the other guys. That was an amazing event for us. What really happened there was that I had five guys that really stepped up every match. Of course we also had the advantage of being the underdog which fortunately or unfortunately we don't have anymore. This team has an amazing amount of talent though and I really feel that the sky is the limit for them. Winter CPL 2005 was really a great event for us but we need to realize that was in the past and its 2007 now. Dominator, he has played on a lot of teams, he has played on 3D for whom he was benched awhile there, he was kind of the guy they would put in the back. He came right back into his own for WCG when Moto stepped out but it really seemed like they kept him as that 6th guy on the team. How would you rate the impact that he has had on your team. What has he brought to the table that was lacking before he joined? Josh is a great motivator; he is always ready to act, always ready to play. He knows what it means to win. I feel that he was underutilized on 3D however that’s not really my position to really comment on. I feel that his performance at WCG was very solid. I've sort of just let Josh work, he's had a positive impact on the team’s performance and we're using Josh to his fullest extent, he is a great member of the team. Well now looking at the CGS event, what are your thoughts so far on this qualifier and also on CGS and your experiences with it in the past? I guess my first impression of CGS came from the CGI event in San Francisco which was really just amazingly well done and over the top. They definitely had some game play issues at that event that they have since worked out and are as optimal as possible considering the TV conditions that they need to be under. CGS really makes a large effort to do things properly and do things right and I saw that in San Francisco with how they treated me and my players. Also, while this event is on a smaller scale than CGI, it has a true tournament feel to it and it’s done a lot for keeping the legitimacy of these qualifiers. CGS has been in the news a lot lately with the Combine and the CGS Draft over at the Playboy Mansion which I’m sure you're excited about. My question is you know that 3D and Complexity have been signed or acquired, I’m not sure what the correct term would be but basically 3D and Col are both CGS franchises or teams now. What is your gut reaction on that and how do you think that affects the team moving forward? I think it was a great move on the part of CGS because those are two of the largest brand names in North America which will give CGS instant legitimacy in the eSports world. My only concern would be how they handle the purchasing of teams, simply because we've seen mixed reactions on how MLG is handling it. I have no idea how their business structure goes as far as purchasing franchises but I think it was a great move on their part. If they go about it properly it should turn out great for all parties. You earlier said how your team was making the transition from 1.6 to Source game play. Also, the games format has completely changed with max rounds 9 and the new start money. How has your team made that adjustment and was it any harder transition than 1.6 to Source. Was the rule transition an even greater adjustment for your team? When you have been playing as long as my guys have you definitely get used to a certain rule set. However the changes were necessary for TV and its all part of the evolution of eSports. You either adapt and win, or you don't adapt and you can hold on to tradition and be left in the dust. Of course it was very hard for my guys to adapt and break tradition when you have as much experience as my guys have but it was necessary and they've done it. It was a slightly difficult transition at first but I feel like they are really starting to get used to it now. But was it harder than making the 1.6 to Source transition? I definitely feel the 1.6 to Source transition was difficult for my team because in that you’re transferring your entire game. You really have to start from scratch and learn a new game. Whereas rules your just adapting and not really starting fresh. |
