Counter-Strike Source: CEVO adds CGS team to CSS Pro Division

By: Jack Westerman - Published June 20, 2007 at 6:30 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Teams have been added to the upcoming CEVO Professional season despite not qualifying in placement tournament.
All six of the recently signed CGS franchise teams have been entered into the CEVO Professional division, and will compete in the upcoming season. The decision is somewhat controversial, as some of the teams did not qualify via the placement tournament that was held in early April. EFGaming and Pandemic, now known as the San Fransisco Optx and Carolina Core respectively, were the only two teams to earn their place in the tournament. Complexity automatically qualified, as the top three teams of each season are automatically entered into the next.

However, the Dallas Venom (Jax Money Crew), Chicago Chimera (Evil Geniuses) and 3D.NY neither finished in the top three of the previous season nor earned their spot through the placement tournament. It would appear that they have been entered simply because of their recent drafting into the CGS, regardless of whether they qualified officially or not.

In addition, team eXploit has also been added to the CEVO-P season in order to produce an even number of teams. This means that the fourteen participating teams are as follows:

3D.NY
Carolina Core
Check-Six
Chicago Chimera
compLexity LA
Dallas Venom
Devastation
eXploit
Forbidden
Hyper!
recKoning
San Fransisco Optx
United 5
