Counter-Strike Source: Karpov on "The 36th Pick"

By: Mark Cheben - Published June 25, 2007 at 2:45 AM EDT - Writer Archive
Brian "Karpov" Johnson over at the CGS's webpage has penned a feature on the 36th draft choice, Team EFG.
The article is an interview with Kat Hunter, the General Manager of the San Francisco OPTX, and Yazan "clowN" Ammari, the team leader for EFGaming. Both interviews focus on what it was like to both draft the last pick and be drafted as the last pick. Below is one question from the interview:

What was your initial reaction when your name was called in the draft? You guys were the last Counter-Strike: Source team selected, how good did it feel to be picked up?

Well not only the last Counter-Strike: Source team, but the last draft pick in general. At first I was completely stunned -- that exact second before getting our name called I was praying to the heavens. Once our name was announced I felt a huge sense of relief and couldn't have been happier.

Kat Hunter: They [EFGaming] suspected the night before they were high on my list, but Alex Conroy had called them and told them I was not interested. I got a call right before the Combine from a very upset EFG. I told them that at this point, I really didn't want to discuss my draft pick and walked away. During the draft, they looked like their mother had died. I could have told them to not worry, but I wanted them to have the experience of hearing their name and being excited.
