Normally, eSTRO would be the clear favorite to win any tournament in Korea, but CS:S is an entirely different animal. Termi, the leader of eSTRO, stated that they have rarely played CS:S and it showed periodically throughout the qualifier.

MaveN , Lunatic-hai and GNC showed up in force. By luck of the draw (or lack thereof), two of the top 1.6 teams would face off in the first round. Lunatic-hai was at a disadvantage due to them having to use a last minute stand-in. Lunatic ended up losing a heartbreaker in overtime to MaveN. They would ultimately end up in the finals against eSTRO.

eSTRO’s road to the CGS Korea Finals was a lot different than MaveN’s. eSTRO was pushed to the limit against a little known rEv team on de_cbble. eSTRO started out hot on their offensive side, winningthe half 5-4 with some clutch play by Miffy, winning a 1v3 in the last round. eSTRO’s troubles started in the 2nd round of the 2nd half, when rEv began to exploit eSTRO’s aggressive style on cbble. eSTRO was on the brink of elimination when the score reached 9-7 but eSTRO was able to force overtime. eSTRO won the overtime round easily with a huge defensive stop inside the B Bombsite.

eSTRO destroyed the confidence of MaveN after beating them 10-2 in the finals. It will be interesting to see which team gets drafted by the two newly minted Korean general managers. Stay tuned to GotFrag for the CGS Korea Finals coverage, starting tomorrow morning at 11am.
