Counter-Strike Source: 3D, coL, zEx, more in CEVO Pro Source Preview

Dallas Venom
3-9 CGS
6-9 CEVO S3

The Dallas Venom finished dead last in the CGS standings and failed to produce a winning record during last CEVO season. They’re the worst of the CGS teams and need to focus on the CEVO P season as a way to bring their game up the level of the other teams.

zomblerz
10-5 CEVO S3

The zomblerz return to CEVO P from a strong finish last season, and hope to improve on that record this season. However, their expectations are cautious. Eric "brawwr" Neer says relates to me that his team has had trouble getting organized for practices due to summer vacations. “We’re not even close to the preparation level we want for CPL or our upcoming CEVO matches, gonna do our best and hope it turns out well.”

Turmoil
7-8 CEVO S3

Turmoil, a freshly created LLC, is represented in CSS by the team formerly known as Devastation. They have a history of almost-top-tier play but have never quite been able to break into the top level of play. This CEVO P season may be the perfect chance for them to take their game to the next level, as they’ll have the chance to knock off a CGS team and get some real attention.

United 5
6-9 CEVO S3

United 5 had a good CGS Combine performance, but missed getting drafted to the dismay of some who felt their performance was strong enough to warrant a CGS spot. After a mediocre showing in Season 3 of CEVO P, they are in the same position as all the other non-CGS teams: They’re here to practice and gain experience in an effort to earn a CGS spot next season.

Forbidden
4-11 CEVO S3

A few months ago, Forbidden would have been expected to do extremely well for this CEVO Season, but after their mediocre showing at the CGS Combine, we’re left with more of a question mark. As for the previous Forbidden CEVO record, significant roster changes have occurred since then and this team feels like they can compete with the CGS teams. Kyle “Mustang” Cummings, a veteran Forbidden player, says the team is “practicing hard and working up our chemistry” in an effort to put those questions to rest.

zEx
zEx was able to earn a Season 4 CEVO P CSS spot due to the outstanding CGS play of Erik "da bears" Stromberg and Justin "sunman" Summy with the Chicago Chimera. Now that shaGuar and Grt have rejoined the Chimera, sunman and da bears are playing with zEx. It’s unclear how well zEx will do in CEVO P, but it won’t hurt to have such experienced players in the fold.

Eximius Sports
Eximius Sports barely squeaked into the CEVO P Placement Tournament, but surprised a lot of observers with impressive wins over 3D, zEx, and jmc. Having no previous CGS record or previous CEVO P season under their belts, there is only one way to go—up. With their impressive Placement Tournament finish, this team is a real dark horse candidate to win the season.

The Last Resort
The Last Resort is an extreme underdog compared with the other, more established teams. They were able to secure a spot in CEVO P by defeating EFG and electrify! in the Placement Tournament, but they’re relatively unknown and untested beyond that performance. Like Eximius, they can only move up in standing.
