Counter-Strike Source: 3D stumbles at Digitallife

After losing to Turmoil and struggling to pull out the win against Hyper, 3D has been sent home by Pandemic in fourth place.

3D.NY entered the 2007 digitallife CSS tournament as the number two seed. After dominating Turmoil the first half of their Semifinals match, many were looking forward to a coL/3D showdown. Unfortunately for their fans, they were unable to win that match and were sent to the lower bracket.

"In the match against Turmoil, the most pivotal round was when we had the bomb down in a 2 v 1 with both Mikey and Jimmy alive. They went to the same spot though, which made it easy for the player from Turmoil to pick them off and win the round." - Andy Rector

Down in the lower bracket, they began by playing against Hyper on inferno. After an abysmal 10-5 first half, 3D looked like they would once again struggle. However, they turned it around in the second half, losing only two rounds and taking the match 16-12.

"We definitely should have won a lot faster against Hyper. We easily could have had at least five more rounds in the first half. We got a little unlucky with some of the rounds and they played really well, especially when retaking sites." - Andy Rector

Advancing to the lower bracket finals, 3D would then face Pandemic. While Pandemic played a tight first two rounds, with an overtime win against Hyper followed by a loss to coL, they were on a roll following their 16-7 win over Gravitas. 3D was able to start off relatively well, taking six rounds on the offensive side of nuke. The pistol round of the second half proved to be pivotal. Rector found himself in a 1 v 2, which he just barely lost. After that, Pandemic just took over. They never let 3D get a glimmer of hope, really exploiting how 3D was playing outside, or rather lack thereof.

"T side we started off really strong. I was pretty happy with getting six rounds, I think that is more than usual. On CT, I lost a really important 1 v 1 for the pistol round. After that we just couldn't get anything going. There was a lot of miscommunication going on. A ton of ambient noise was going on throughout the event and that made it hard to hear each other. They had a band come on stage who was really loud. Then they had some sort of guitar hero contest. It was very distracting." - Andy Rector

Rector wasn't the only player to complain about the noise at the event. With GGL's stage being right next to the tournament area, other players were voicing complaints about the loud noise present.

"They had some sort of screemo band come on during our match. I knew as soon as I saw the band get on stage it was going to be a problem. The band they had before it wasn't as bad because the music was much more mello, but the guitar blaring and the singer screaming, it made it hard to concentrate." - Stephen "sasquatcH" Csikos

As far as what the future holds for 3D, they certainly have found some room for improvement before next weekend's newegg tournament.

"I hope the event at newegg doesn't have loud events going on right next to the tournament area. Other than that, we are going to work on our setups, especially when we have the bomb down. In general we just need to work on being more patient." - Andy Rector
