Thirty-two of Australia and New Zealand's best CounterStrike:Source teams battled it out in the online double elimination tournament to find out which 4 teams would win the chance to play in the Australian Live Qualifier and Draft for a chance to be drafted into the Australian CGS franchise. After 3 grueling weeks and 62 matches, the top 4 were finally known. Due to the long distance it is more than likely that only the teams that placed first and second will be competing as they receive free flights and accommodation.
The chance to play in a professional gaming team has been a long term dream for many Australian CS players. The competition in the Australian Live Qualifiers will be intense as they look to be drafted into the Sydney CGS Franchise. The Sydney Franchise will compete in the Pan-Asian Finals against franchises from Seoul, China, Dubai, Malaysia, and Singapore. The top 4 franchises go through to the World Championships in Los Angeles, California (USA)in December.
The competition featured many big names of the region such as:
Imminent (Australian Champions '06 '07)
Halcyon (WCG NZ 1.6 '07 Winners)
Sequential Gaming (South Australia champions and 2nd at 07 Aus Champ.)
Advantage (Western Australia champions and 3rd at 07 Aus Champ.)
Team Sidewinder (Newtype) (NZ CS:S Champions)
iCHOR (WCG 05 Aus CS:S Representatives).
After the exciting competition was at an end this is how it finished:

David "davio" Kaye

Christian "d1gz" Cheung

Josh "Kermit" Evans

Michael “Snake” Hall
iCHOR came into the competition heavily backed as a top 4 team; however, they have their critics, with many saying this lineup was by far their weakest ever. They might have proved their critics right after a loss in the second round of the upper bracket to Queensland and eventual 5/6th place finishers Team Fury. However iCHOR battled throughout the lower bracket and scored big victories with consecutive overtime wins over Halcyon and Advantage. They faced Fury again in the lower bracket and this time they got the job done, beating them 10-7. However, iCHOR then lost to Evolution Australia 10-5 in the lower bracket semi-final. This team is filled with experienced players and they showed it throughout the competition by pulling off tight rounds through great teamwork. Their star performer was Christian "d1gz" Cheung, averaging just under a frag per round and 16 frags per match; he was often the decisive factor in rounds for the team. It is unlikely iCHOR will be attending the Australian Draft due to the cost.
3rd Place: Evolution AustraliaEvolution Australia Lineup

The team from Tasmania weren't heavily favored coming into the competition having never competed in anything above an intermediate level competition and are not seen as big tournament performers. Proving doubters wrong, this team was on fire from the word go, only dropping 3 rounds in their first two matches. Round 3 of the upper bracket saw them take on Newtype, their first true test of the competition which they lost 10-3. In the lower bracket Evolution Australia continued to show there caliber by taking out three highly favored teams in Redux, Sequential Gaming, and iCHOR before they met Newtype again in the lower bracket final. There was no change in the scoreline in this rematch as Evolution lost 10-3 again. The team has been around for a while and although this is a relatively new lineup, they show tremendous attacking ability in the quick style CGS format. It seems to really favor this team who is very aggressive even when playing on the defensive side. Their style of play have caught many teams, who are considered a lot better than them, off guard and Evolution Australia have taken control of most of their matches once they gain the upper hand. The team won $1500 AUD to help them attend the Australian Live Qualifier and Draft but that still leaves them with a lot of distance to cover to make the event and without sponsorship it is very unlikely they will attend the Australian Draft.
