Counter-Strike Source: Hyper's CEVO season crippled by instability

By: Andrew Hammett - Published October 21, 2007 at 10:54 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Plagued by constant roster changes, Hyper! never had a chance to develop chemistry and get into a winning groove for CEVO Professional Season 4

Hyper! was once considered one of the best teams in the CSS community. Recent failures and sub-par performances online and at LAN have come together to put a dent in their reputation. While Hyper! had been denounced as an "online" team in months past, they were largely inconsequential during this CEVO season.

Their season was characterized by roster changes and internet connection issues from some of their reliable players. Hyper! started the season with a 10-8 victory over Gravitas Gaming. Close matches that would be decided by one point became the norm for Hyper's season, but most of those matches didn't go as well as the match against Gravitas.

They would go on to lose four matches by 1 point, versus LA complexity, Turmoil, Pandemic, and Dallas Venom. It is interesting to ponder how radically the makeup of the playoffs could have been changed with a difference in just a few rounds. After their first victory of the season, they were unable to secure a win against any team that made playoffs and finished the season with a 4-7 record.

At a Glance:

Record:4-7
High Point:Crushing 3D.NY 13-5
Low Point:5 match loss streak
Stats:DAR: 78.2 | FPR .724 | +/- -12
Hyper! attempted to right the sinking ship by countering a 5 game loss streak with some roster additions: Jarrod “remix” Shaw, Rob “roby” Coppock, and Joseph “Foerster” Foerster.

Remix and roby have both left the team to pursue a G3 reform with Adeel "pr0d" Anwar and other familiar names.

The new week 5 roster brought in a strong victory over the Chicago Chimera, but the losing continued, and Hyper was only able to barely win over fellow cellar-dweller Eximius by one point in the last match of the season.

When asked if Hyper! intends to participate in the Season 5 Placement Tournament, James "GODE" Godish, a long time team member said "We're kind of at a standstill as a team as we're on a little bit of a break between seasons, there are a lot of things that need to be decided on before then."
