After the announcement of two $50,000 Counter-Strike tournaments at the Winter CPL, both the 1.6 and CSS community reacted with excitement. The 1.6 community in North America was thrilled that a major league was sticking with their game, and the CS:Source community was equally thrilled to be making their second appearance at the CPL after their inaugural Summer 2005 Source tournament was a huge success.

However, it would appear that the level of excitement may have been short-lived. Registrations for the CSS tournament have been very poor, with only 6 full teams and 10 partial teams signed up for a total of 42 registrants. It is also unclear whether CGS franchises can participate in this tournament.

The CS 1.6 tournament seems to be more popular, with 11 full teams and 14 partial teams signed up, with 90 registrants in total.

In contrast to the CS tournaments, 151 players have ponied up $250 each for a chance to play in the $1,000,000 Halo 3 Competition. A list of current registrations can be found here: CPL Winter Halo 3 Registrants.

Personally, I think that the CGS should let its teams enter. Just my 2 cents however.

I would take a bus down their but its kinda close to Chritmas and getting a team from Canada to come with me would be next to impossible.

I don't even get why CGS doesn't allow people to enter some other leagues ..

I heard that some major eu teams are not participating due to the fact that cpl had problems with paying prize money.

I don't understand, how can there be so few registered teams? This is CPL, I imagine they have to filter hundreds of teams to leave only 64 of them. Now it's a lack of teams! OMG.

Is it because of the time? Christmas, school etc? They should have put these 50 grand for the first prize or #1 35 000 #2 10 000 #3 5 000 or something

just host CPL in europe next time :), there are more teams available because the cost of travel is much lower....and make it a 1.6 tourney only no matter if the prize money is $75000 altogether not 100K..

The reason why is because it is during EXAM WEEK for the college kids who would normally go. Also dont post and say that source killed cpl people on these forums have been saying cpl is dead for years.

#15 but playing in europ means you have to pay those taxes on your earnings. Where as in texas you just have to worry about federal income tax since there is no state.

for the record, at the summer cpl byoc, there were plenty of teams that played source. reason why so few have registered is mainly because of the awful dates.

The date is absolutely horrible....the rumors about that 1 million $ Halo 3 tournament being BS don'T help either.

anyone else remeber 3 or 4 years ago when there werent enough registration spots at the cpl? -_-

also, to those of you whining about finals, cpl winter has always been finals week, had you been playing for more than a year or two youd know that.

Thats a lie. It was a complete failure.

the upcoming summer cpl, if they still have it, will field 30 teams easily.

Source killed 1.6
CGS killed CPL.

there is another problem of credibility towards the gamers. Some of them didn't get the cashprice they won during some CPL event.
For exemple, french clan aAa didn't get their 7644 � cashprice they won during CPL Italy. Thats pretty lame.

many ppl have a grudge against CPL, especially from the css side, they screwed us over in 06, then the game got popular and they wanted us back, imo... I would love to go to CPL, but it really isnt worth it having to play like random cal-m teams, i loved CPL 1.6 because atleast i got to get whooped by some pro euro team, only good teams i would love to play that are registered for CSS so far are fnatic and Multigamer(mG, they're nuts)

I thought the cpl died already after dropping cs and going to world in conflict and pain killer which maybe a few hundred people play in the world competitivly.

#26 no team got their money from CPL Italy my friends were 5-8 and they should get something but they got info that none got that money at all so gg, cpl :D
But still I think CPL Winter is the event to win and I hope to see all great teams there, btw why host a 1.6 tournament in US anyway? europe has like massive number of good teams and US sucks because the only good teams they had(3D, coL) sold themselves to CGS, and that only makes it harder for euoropean teams to attend, and I'm certain if we had an event where everyone could sign with a big prizemoney somewhere in EU, like france, germany, italy,... there would be many more teams and fans to + europe is much more beautiful and the food isn't just some meat+bread+0,5l of oil.
I think most gamers would prefer to go to paris, barcelona, berlin, munchen, milano, etc. than texas...
forgot to mention, CS:S sucks ass can't they just stop trying? I saw some stream matches from coL in that league they won now, it's a boring game, no really amazing shots, even the progamers look so clumsy on it, maps are far from balanced, so all in all it is being put in competition just because of the name Counter-strike, if its name was farcry(it looks more like farcry than cs to me) no event would host it. And what would you like to see? SK vs fnatic, pentagram, roccat or would you like to see coL pwning all other CS:S noobs xD

CPL Winter always had less teams then summer, just back then, it wasn't so hard to get teams to fill up the slots.

The timing is just terrible, I know of several EU teams including us (Ebuyer) who would have loved to have attended, but the timing of the event has made the flights so ridiculously expensive that theres no way sponsors are going to be willing to pay.

CPL lost its appeal when they soldout.
