1-4 Setup

At the beginning of the playbook we looked at a technique used by 3D.NY in which they stack choke points for a few seconds before rotating away if no opponents appear. This technique can be seen again here. Although the tactic settles down to a 4-1 setup, at the start of the round two players rush to the banana site, Volcano with an AWP and LiN with a rifle, so the strat actually starts out as a 3-2 setup. If the attackers do not immediately rush the banana site, LiN rotates back to the netted site once Volcano has had chance to post up with his AWP.

Over on the netted site, Ksharp climbs up onto the balcony with an AWP and focuses on the other end of the apartment. Method also enters the apartments, and plays on the defensive side staircase, looking up toward the grate. Occasionally, he will drop back into the boiler room to watch for attackers pushing mid around to the right. Rector is also in the apartments, holding one of the rooms.

Once LiN arrives at the netted site, having rotated from banana, he posts up in the defensive spawn alleyway, occasionally moving across to the indent. From here, he is able to throw counter-flashes fairly hastily and inaccurately and still blind any attackers, and is able to get out of the way of rushing opponents easily.

1-4 Alternate Setup

The screenshots below show some other positions used by 3D while defending the netted bombsite. These positions are much less aggressive than those shown previously, helping to add some variety to their defensive arsenal.

Ksharp is now standing in the house watching the balcony with an AWP, and LiN is playing on the bombsite watching the same choke point with a rifle. Method and Rector are holding each side of mid, and both have relatively easy escapes if the attackers do come charging around.

2-3 Setup

This time, both players that start out at the banana bombsite actually stay there, turning the usual 4-1 setup into a 3-2. They are also playing more passively, sitting back on the bombsite rather than pushing out to the banana walkway. Other than that small change, this setup is virtually identical to the 1-4.

2-3 Aggressive Banana

This tactic incorporates an aggressive push down the banana walkway with a passive setup at the netted bombsite. Again, the setup is a 2-3, with two players at banana and three at netted, although the players at the netted site have ever so slightly changed their positions again. Method is now playing in the ditch below the balcony, Rector has moved across to the indent mentioned previously, and Ksharp is playing on the CT spawn side alleyway, AWPing toward mid.

The two players at banana push straight down the walkway at the beginning of the round. Volcano posts up with his AWP behind the car as usual, covering LiN who pushes right down to the tree indent. If LiN manages to make it down to the indent without being seen, he is able to camp there and wait to see if the attackers push back toward banana. He could also choose to flank quickly behind them, which would also allow Volcano to rotate back to the netted site to provide additional support there.
