In this Player Spotlight, Jonas Nordqvist of the Berlin Allianz talks about his time in LA, and shares his thoughts on the Finals. ![]() Alias: nordQvist Age: 22 Location: Sweden Franchise: Berlin Allianz Hey nordQvist, please tell us a little about yourself, and your gaming history. My name is Jonas Nordqvist and I’m 22 years old. I started gaming about 6-7 years ago in school with my friends, just for fun. Now I’m playing professional for Berlin Allianz in the Championship Gaming Series. When did you arrive in Los Angeles and what do you think of it? What have you been doing since you arrived, and how was the long flight from Sweden? ^^ We arrived on Saturday the 24th. The flight was okay. I really don’t like to sit still in my seat for too long, but it’s worth it for sure. When we arrived at the hotel we went straight down to the bubble pool. That was great; my back was so stiff from the long flight. In the past days we have been working out, swimming, shopping, playing tennis, doing TV-shoots, and hanging out with the team. Every night we go out for a team meal. We live really close to Venice beach so there is plenty of restaurants to choose from. How have you been preparing for the CGS World Finals? Have you been working particularly hard, or just training as usual? We have been playing more then usual: 5 days a week, 5 hours a day. It’s hard to find opponents in Europe who plays the CGS ruleset. So we basically end up playing the same teams every night. We haven’t made any big changes to our tactics; we are using the same as we do against our European opponents. But against some teams we have to adjust our tactics in-game. Has your General Manager given you any advice going into the finals? Yes he has given us some tips. Jonas has a lot of experience from gaming, so he can give us both in-game and out-game tips. We are discussing tactics with him etc. But I don’t think that he has been analysing the other teams. Have you had chance to play against any US teams yet? How does their play style differ from your own? Yes we have. I think their strats are much simpler, European teams play more complicated. But we’ve only had positive results so far, and there isn’t any skill gap compared to what every American fanboy thinks ;) Do you know anything about either of the teams you could face in the second round: the Wuhan Dragon or the Mexico City Furia? We will have the individual tournament first, where all the best teams from all the games will be facing each other. Our first real franchise game will be on the 10th December. We don’t know anything about Wuhan Dragon or Mexico City Furia. But I think we will go trough to the semi-finals. What is the atmosphere amongst the players? Are people mainly nervous, excited or confident? How are you feeling about the event? Mixed feelings I think. Personally I’m very excited. How do you expect the Berlin Allianz to do in the World Finals? In your opinion, which teams have a good chance of taking the title? Well I think we have a good shot taking the first place. The teams that will be hard to beat will be the London Mint and the Chicago Chimera. If you win the entire tournament, what will you do with your share of the money? I haven’t thought much about it. Maybe I will put them in a saving account or buy a new apartment. Thanks for the interview and good luck in the finals! Is there anything you would like to add? Being a CGS player is like living a dream. I would like to thank our GM Jonas “bsl” Alsaker Vikan and the CGS for making it happen. Also make sure to visit our webpage! |
