Counter-Strike Source: GotFrag's New CEVO Pro Predictions

By: Marc Turner - Published January 16, 2008 at 1:13 AM EST - Writer Archive
Say hello to my little friends! GotFrag unveils a new prediction format for all leagues, events and games. Midway, jESUIT, Scoots, Singlecoil and guests predict the future of CEVO Pro CS:Source Season 5 Week 2:1.

CEVO Pro CS:Source Season 5 heads into week two with a bang. GotFrag takes on week two with an all new prediction format unveiling. You, the readers want to know what experts have to say about match ups without a lot of bull? Well here it is, predictions, short and sweet, made by the people that know the game better than anyone. eSports personalities, top players and senior GotFrag staff only! Each predictor has one sentence to predict an outcome and why.

Joining Midway and the crew this week are none other than the San Francisco Optx' Trevor "p0s" Randolph. Trevor is a seasoned CS 1.6 and CS:Source veteran and is well known and respected in both communities. Also joining the festivities this week is Mason "mason" Dickens, a popular veteran CS player with experience in CS 1.6 and CS:Source with MugNMouse, verGe and more.

Dallas Venom vs. x3o

The Venom lost a close match in overtime to Devastation last week and had a BYE for match night one due to U5's CEVO exit. x3o had the tougher schedule by far, taking losses from Complexity 10-5 and the Core 10-8. x3o has some of the most experienced CS veterans in the business but have only recently started playing CS:Source as a unit other than an impressive showing in the placement tournament for this season. Erik "da_bears" Stromberg and Justin "sunman" Summy did play together for Chicago in season one of CGS where they split a pair of matches with the Venom, 10-8. The Venom have replaced Kevin "aZn" Wang with Eric "brawwr" Neer since the end of the CGS regular season.

I'm pulling for x3o to upset the Venom. With the map being Russka, anything can happen.

Dallas has a bit of head start on teamwork and will get it together against this very talented lineup.
Who has the eye of the tiger this week? I say da_bears and crew in a nail biter.

Dallas has too much skill to lose back to back.
Dallas Venom huge because half of x3o still cries about 1.6 vs source argument
PS: rocky nice work on the got armor list.

Devastation vs. Eximius Sports

Devastation lost a tough one to eGe 10-8 last week and won an OT match against the Venom. Eximius lost to Pandemic 10-7 and defeated TLR 10-5 last week. These two are a classic match up of veteran Source players with Eximius resembling the old Forbidden roster. These two have met online in the past, many times. This Devastation lineup finished third at CPL Winter 2007 under the Turmoil banner and have a long list of LAN accomplishments between them.

Cutting your brother can't be easy, losing to eGe can't be any easier. Sorry Sas, Eximius in a close one.
Sasquatch is not happy about last week's loss but the proven NE LAN veteran will come through this time.
Drop the bro, win the dough. Devastation in a close one!
This could be the best match of the day with Eximius winning close, maybe OT.
Devastation squeaks by Eximius sports because all of Devastation are stuck in Azeroth leveling little gnomes.

Mexico City Furia vs. The Last Resort

The Furia lost both matches last week by a large margin, to Optx 10-2 and Pandemic 10-2. TLR faired somewhat better losing their first two in much closer matches, to eGe 10-6 and Eximius 10-5. The former Mexican team Art of War, now known as the Mexico City Furia, has had very little experience with American teams and so far their biggest accomplishment has been losing in overtime to MiBR in the Latin American CGS combine and making it into the CGS. The Last Resort finished last season of CEVO in fourth place with a 6-5 record. The team has since replaced Arvin "tech" Wang and Chris "deppy" DePaul with Zach "cannoN" Cannon and Matt "ChEeKz" Csikos. Both teams are winless going into week two.

This is Furia's best CHANCE for a win this season ... but I said chance. Snowballs have a better chance in hell.

Despite being week one's punching bag, TLR will come out on top against the timid Furia.
This map will not bode well for the Furia. Love ya Zaibot, but this one is going to be all TLR.

TLR is too good for the "token" team from down South.
TLR wins big ..... I think everyone SHOULD know why.

San Francisco Optx vs. Team Pandemic

The Optx rolled through their competition last week with wins over Furia 10-2 and 3D 10-1. Team Pandemic also won both matches convincingly with 10-7 win over Eximius and a 10-2 win over Furia. These two lineups, mostly still intact, were basically rivals going back to the earliest days of CS:Source. They have played each other many times with both teams giving and taking but with the Optx playing CGS and Pandemic not, the two have not played each other in quite some time.

Since this is Russka and it's going to be about preparation, anyone who plays the OPTX has a good shot at winning.
Ooh, Classic CS:Source match up, it'll be close, but PowersGaming wins over verGe.
Since both teams are equally sexy, the tiebreaker fell to the GM position.
Can these guys actually play someone? A combined 20-3 against their past two opponents combined, I give it to Pandemic cause at least they have played SOMEONE.
I have seen Pandemic practicing Russka a lot lately, so because of that I'm going to go with them.

3D.NY vs. Carolina Core

3D struggled a bit last week with a devastating loss to the Optx 10-1. The Core gained a win over x3o 10-8. Both teams only played one match last week. These two teams played each other three times during the first regular season of CGS with 3D getting the better of the series with wins in two of the three match ups. The matches were extremely close with each team taking an overtime win and 3D winning the other match 10-8.3D managed to knock the Core out of LANFest 2K7 with a 13-7 lower bracket win but lost to coL in the consolation.

If Moto plays ... 3D wins. Since he can't or won't, Core takes it in a landslide.

I think the Core has this considering 3D's recent play.
To echo a favorite quote around the GotFrag TV studio: "We're the god damn mother f**king Carolina Core, let's roll!"

3D go back to 1.6. Core wins.
Core wins 11-7, because of Devours swift awp.
