Counter-Strike Source: GotFrag's New CEVO Pro Predictions: Week 2:2

By: Marc Turner - Published January 18, 2008 at 7:39 PM EST - Writer Archive
We're back! GotFrag delivers its second installment of our new prediction series for all games. This time around Midway, jESUIT, SirScoots and Singlecoil get help from Mark Dolven and Yazan "Clown" Ammari predicting CEVO Pro CS:Source Season 5, Week 2:2.

The competition is really starting to get heated as we move into CEVO Pro CS:Source Season 5 Week 2:2 … not just for the players but for our predictors as well. GotFrag's all new prediction series delivers what readers want; predictions, short and sweet, by the people that know the game better than anyone. eSports personalities, top players and senior GotFrag staff only! Each predictor has one sentence to predict an outcome and why.

For match night 2:2, GotFrag has enlisted the help of Mark Dolven, former manager of Team Pandemic and current manger for the CGS' Carolina Core. Mark has many years of experience in playing and managing eSports teams across a wide variety of games and is a well respected member of the community. Pinch predicting for Mr. Dolven will be Yazan “Clown” Ammari, former PowersGaming, EFG and current CGS San Francisco Optx, professional CS:Source player.

Eximius vs. XFX

Eximius went down in match night 2:1 in a close one with Devastation 10-8, giving the team a .500 record at 2-2. Team XFX makes its debut in CEVO Pro CS:Source Season 5 in place of the absent United 5. XFX made a big impact on the scene recently with an XFX promotional bus tour, reality series and a win over Complexity in an exhibition match at the CGS World Finals. XFX is also CPL Winter 2007 CS:Source Champions. The Eximius lineup consists mostly of the old Forbidden squad with a list of accomplishments too long to list here.

I'm going to go for a long shot here and take XFX. I can't do any worse than last week, and XFX does have some talented players.

cassO's beanie cannot save XFX from the wrath Brad Dick hath wrought.
Eximius lost by 2 last match on Russka. Eximius wins over the new guys of XFX by the same margin.

I went Eximius last time and they burned me - YOU GUYS GOT ONE LAST SHOT THEN YOU ARE OFF MY LIST!!
Eximius by a couple, Deppy and al|ve have tin cans and string for internet.

eGe vs. x3o

eGe is undefeated at 2-0 with wins over Devastation 10-7 and TLR 10-6. x3o comes into match night 2:2 at 0-3 with losses to the Core 10-5, coL 10-4 and, Dallas 10-3 on Russka in Week 2:1. These two lineups made their way to CEVO through the placement tournament but did not cross paths there.

eGe has this, x3o really disappointed me versus Dallas.
eGe is on an online roll with CEVO and xlr8 tourneys, they will keep rolling here.
The Venom blew x3o out last match. This one will be closer, but eGe will take the win.
The sun is about to set on eGe (Always need another corny headline!!), x3o wins!
x3o in overtime led by Sunman with 20+ kills.

Mexico City Furia vs. Devastation

The Furia are winless in their first season of CEVO Pro with losses to Optx 10-3, Pandemic 10-1 and a little better match against TLR 10-8. The Furia have a combined frag ratio of -100 for the season. Devastation won a close overtime match against Dallas in week 1:1 but suffered a disappointing loss to eGe 10-7 in 1:2, Dev managed to snap back on Ruskka in the first match night of the week bringing them to a 2-1 record .

Well maybe Furia is better than a lot of people think, but Devastation shouldn't have trouble here.

Another devastating loss for Furia.
Brazil banned CS, not Mexico, so Dev wins by 5.

Furia surprised me with 8 against TLR, still I think there's a better chance we'll see snow in Mexico City than Devastation losing here!
I love my tequila drinking brothers from the south, but Funshine is too much. All Devastation.

San Francisco Optx vs. The Last Resort

San Francisco have opened the season on fire. Laurent “Warmach1ne” Keoula leads the league in +/-frag ratio with +26 and second to Complexity's Danny “FroD” Montaner in damage per round as the Optx have gone undefeated in three matches for a combined 30-8 score. Suffering at the hands of the Optx this season so far have been the Furia, 3D and Pandemic. The Last Resort come into this match with a 1-2 record and losses to eGe 10-6, Eximius 10-5 and a win over Furia 10-8.

The punching bag is back ... Optx will make this a quick match.
Optx have this with good aim on Russka.
This will not be over quickly, and you will not enjoy it - Optx by many.
Kat has presented me a new rule: Always predict against Optx... OK TLR wins at being bad. Optx by a couple.
For some reason, the Optx look hot this season and the new TLR doesn't seem to be clicking, so Optx by a lot.

3D.NY vs. Team Pandemic

3D has started this season of CEVO Pro on a low note with an embarrassing loss to the Optx 10-1 and a little closer match to the Core 10-8. The combined team +/- frag ratio is -38 with Kyle “ksharp” Miller having the only positive ratio on the team with a +1. Pandemic is 2 and 1 with a 10-7 win over Eximius, a 10-1 rolling of Furia and a loss to Optx 10-4. Paradox and Mustang lead the team with both having a +15 +/-frag ratio and the team has a combined +/-frag ratio of +38 for the season. Pandemic sent 3D home with a 16-10 win at DigitalLife 2007. 3D returned the favor at LANFest 2K7 with a 13-10 win over Pandemic.

With a close loss to a hot Core, 3D looks to be the team in better shape. 3D by an inch.

-9 and 51 DAR? Mikey, say it ain't So!
Pandemic got 4 against Optx and 3D got 8 against the Core. This one is 3D in a squeaker.

Until Method stops playing like a tool … I think Ksharp will find me less in Middle School and more behind the team he’s facing each week. Free win for Pandemic!
Ksharp is better than people think, Pandemic needs to decide on a fifth. 3D has this.

Carolina Core vs. Complexity L.A.

The Core is 2-0 with wins over x3o 10-5 and 3D.NY 10-8. Complexity has played one match this season so far with a win over x3o 10-4. With only one match down for coL, Danny “fRoD” Montaner has already taken the lead in several categories of Gamesense Statistics. These two teams played each other two times during the first regular season of the CGS with the Core taking the first match 10-8 and coL taking the last 12-6.The two met again at LANFest 2K7 where Complexity knocked Carolina to the lower bracket with a 13-7 win.

As much as I want Core to knock off compLexity (to make this season interesting) ... I don't see it happening.

Lake is staying right where he is at and so is his team, they'll win one for the Gipper.
Once again, "We're the god damn mother f**king Carolina Core, lets roll!" Core in a close one!

fRoD take the night off, let some other people catch up on Gamesense seriously?!?! coL by only a few cause its Russka.
I haven't seen coL yet on Russka or heard anything, but they are coL and zet has a CRT. coL all the way.
