Counter-Strike Source: Gamers Tour Launches

By: Brent Meeder - Published March 06, 2008 at 1:44 PM EST - Writer Archive
The Gamers Tour Kicks Off March 8, with First of 32 Regional & National Game Center Tournaments, along with Online Competitions.
Mountain View, CA — Leading Game Center organization iGames, together with 17 of the nation’s leading Game Centers, today announced the creation of the Gamers Tour (www.gamerstour.com), a new series of eSports tournaments geared towards the amateur to semi-professional communities.

Featuring regional and national tournaments, along with a series of online competitions hosted by leading competitive gaming community CEVO (www.cevo.com), the Gamers Tour will showcase the best local gamers from around the US competing for cash and prizes on today’s most popular competitive titles, including Counter-Strike: 1.6 (PC) and Counter-Strike: Source (PC), along with additional games which will be announced shortly.

The Gamers Tour will be focused on complementing the events offered by other eSports event organizers. Many eSports tournament organizers hold high-profile events showcasing the world’s best professional gamers. The Gamers Tour will be focused on providing fun competitive local events for players of a broader range of skill, thereby serving the need for a LAN-based program for non-professionals on their way to competing at higher levels.

In total, more than 32 competitions are planned to take place throughout 2008, with more than $50,000.00 in cash and prizes in the balance. Regional tournaments will offer a set minimum of a $1,000 prize pool. All prizes will be awarded promptly to winning players for their efforts.

The events will take place at Game Centers with a proven history of operating the highest quality eSports events, including X3O Gaming Center in Maryland.

“We are proud to work with iGames and other leading game centers to build the Gamers Tour. Our 2008 Dust-Off Championship Series will be making gaming history for a second year in a row, being the largest tournament ever in the United States to be developed and executed by a gaming center,” said Nick Fitzsimmons, Manager of X30 Gaming Center. “We are looking forward to incorporating the 2008 Dust-Off Championship Series with the Gamers Tour, which will provide more visibility to the thousands of gamers nationwide.”

The Gamers Tour is distinguished in that the events will be accessible to more local players than any other eSports organization with LAN play. As the tour grows, participating locations will be within driving distance of every major city in the United States. The nation’s best Game Center events will be united through a coordinated schedule of tournaments and rankings will be established for players and teams based on results.

“Though many organizations provide online opportunities to play in leagues, ladders and tournaments, game centers, with their in-person atmosphere, are the perfect venue to help strengthen and grow the eSports community,” said Mark Nielsen, Executive Director, iGames. “In addition, the LAN environment offered at game centers provides aspiring professional gamers the opportunity to hone their skills on LAN which is how most big prize tournaments are run.”

Tournaments will be held throughout the year and will be announced as details become available. For more information and a complete list of Game Centers hosting the Gamers Tour, including signup information, visit http://www.gamerstour.com or contact info@gamerstour.com.

Kind of funny how it says Midwest yet the centers in that division are at Indiana and Michigan.
I sure hope they have more centers than that for the "season" otherwise the turnout is going to be horrible.

#7 CyGamZ (near Detroit, Michigan), eBash (near Indianapolis, Indiana), and Net Heads (in Indianapolis, Indiana) are all top locations for eSports tournaments. Anyone who has been to any of their events will agree.

We're currently covering 2 of the 3 biggest cities in the Mid-West. Quality over quantity.

In time more locations will be added so that all major cities can be well served.

Hopefully euphNET will hold a tournament for this out in California. I guarantee if there was one there, the team list would be full! So many people, especially in Northern California, want a tournament here!!

#13 not true. when cs is popular from time to time its normally because of large tournaments up and coming. And if there is more lan events like their use to be, that means more people are practicing online.

"The events will take place at Game Centers with a proven history of operating the highest quality eSports events"

I wouldn't consider CGC in irvine, ca the "highest quality" LAN center. PC hardware is all mixed and matched including monitors. certain rows of pc's certainly are better than others. it's still a lan that's been abused by children.

but who am i to complain. i'd still go to compete...(b/c no other lan is igames related!)

I'm not sure what game center you are talking about.

The Gamers Tour doesn't include a center in Irvine or a center abbreviated CNC.

#25 i looked on the site and only saw one "west" event...scheduled in aug...i thought it would be cgc cause they were an igames center and was apart of those lan vs. lan competitions hosted by cevo/intel or whatever.

i'm assuming they're not apart of the gamers tour anymore from your post.

good to know but i hope there's a good replacement. the california lan scene is the most competitive and thriving cs community. come test it.

I think bdub meant "CGCentre" (CGC) in Irvine, CA. Although I think Click N Connect in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga (Southern California) should be in the rotation for the centers.

CGC is a CyberSquare Alliance center, while CGC is part of iGames they are not part of the Gamers Tour. The current California lan centers in the tour are Euphnet V3 and Howies Game Shack.

I think that the midwest region could expand to states that are located in the middle instead of midwest states exclusively on the east section. What I mean is that maybe having some lan centers that could be accessible to people living on the west side of the midwest.

#38 well i could look but i have to believe there are some in the chicago area or maybe Milwaukee area. I was just recommending those areas for a place to look. Its just michigan and indiana are so far east that alot of people would be left out because of no locations within a 10 hour drive.
