Counter-Strike Source: Venom, Core in XLR8 Series

The XLR8 Gaming Series heads into last qualifier before championship.
USA - The 2008 XLR8 Gaming Series Championship moves into the final qualifier this week. The charges-only tournament is in its fourth week of competition and teams are vying for eight spots in the Championship Finals.

The tournament presents an old school, charges-only style format. In this unique format, halves are 10 minutes long with a one minute, twenty five second round time. Teams must score as many rounds as possible on the offensive side in the 10 minute halves. Points are only scored by offensive sides with each team taking a turn on offense in one of the ten minute halves. The team with the most amount of offensive scores wins.

Points have been earned by teams competing in the previous three qualifiers. After the fourth qualifier, points will be added for each team and the top eight teams will advance to the Championship Finals, April 7th-13th. Prizes in the competition are valued at over $7,500.

Stay tuned as GotFrag brings you live coverage of the XLR8 Gaming Series last qualifier and the Championship Finals in April. Source TV and IRC scorebot information will be available as soon as that information is released.

This qualifier will use a single elimination format for the first two rounds. The remaining 8 teams will go on to a double elimination format to determine placings for week 4.

I recommend actually playing the format before commenting on it. The overwhelming majority of teams that participated in Weeks 1-3 had a lot of fun and told us so.

SourceTV will likely only be available for double elimination round matches + Championships.

#3, for me and I think many agree, I like this format as well or more than, the CGS format. At least, I think it is a cool change of pace.

#10 ,

Yup! Charges Only was played quite a bit in the early days of Counter-strike because, well it was fun, and because many people (especially Euro Quake converts I think) were frustrated with the slow pace and then longer round times. The XLR8 series format is quite similar with a few tweaks here and there for modern CS.

#15,

Sorry you missed your match. Please do note, however, that matches have never been, nor ever will be listed as CST for XRL8. Since day 1 - http://ems.esportsea.com/?a=thread&series..

seriously what are these scores... can we have a little more effort than a 1-0 in every match? can we actually get the amount of rounds they won
