MYM has announced that it will be closing its Counter-Strike: Source division, due to the prevalence of 1.6 in Europe. MYM’s management cites that, "none of the [European] events have replaced CS 1.6 with CS:S and most likely won't ever". They then go on to condemn Source as, "a game that we no longer consider a professional game with a future". The official news on MYM’s website reads as follows: Back in 2007 we took in the Danish Counter-Strike Source team from H2K, mostly to secure a top team for a potential swift between CS 1.6 and CS:S amongst the global events. Since none of the events have replaced CS 1.6 with CS:S and most likely won't ever, we have lost belief in the game and are therefore closing down the division to focus on other upcoming games and the ones we already have. MYM's Counter-Strike: Source line-up was: Martin "orga" Hansen Thomas "inCre-" Hector Lars "h0lm" Holm Jespersen Troels "eXce" KierulffSource: MyMYM |

That'st he more valid excuse sorry...
cy@ source
btw #17 MYM also have dota, starcraft, FiFA and WoW teams, its not like these games have alot
of really big tournaments either
cgs chose css over 1.6 on their own accord, valve told them they could use 1.6 they just couldnt make a whole show about counterstrike. CGS stated on their website they chose it all by themselves. Stop blaming valve its wrong
1.6 is in for the next 5 years!
You see, as far as the business agenda of organizations like mYm are concerned, CS:S really doesn't have any future, because mYm itself is unable to truly create any sort of relationship of mutual benefit with the CGS.
Therefore, it really is sort of silly and pointless for mYm to sponsor a team and players whose eventual ambition is to only leave mYm, get drafted into the CGS, and get paid more money than mYm could ever offer their players. And then what would mYm receive in return for their prior sponsorship of said players? Nothing, basically.
So basically, in sum, what I'm saying here is that the CGS essentially has a monopoly on CS:S's professional future. And so for organizations like mYm, CS:S really isn't a very sensible investment, at least as long as the old-guard of big LAN events like the WCG and ESWC aren't using the game, since these are the only competitions that the old-era gaming organizations like mYm can sensibly focus on.
problem with that is if cgs decides to drop css it will just kill it off
CSS is a fairly ugly game as well. It isn't an issue of "tough to get used to"... the issue is the gameplay. Source lacks it.
DotA is also HUGE in South East Asia, WoW is just huge in general, FIFA is really big in Germany.
#28 what big american talent? Complexity? ok
Maybe the Europeans are playing the game because its better.
The only nation where Source even gets close to being bigger than 1.6 in Europe is the UK.
" Btw the only reason europe is sticking with 1.6 is because all the good american talent left, so they can just go win all the tournaments."
They play the game they love and it happens to be the game where the money is at the moment in Europe. There are no source tournaments with big prize pools so why would anyone want to convert to source if they are happy with the current situation? Sure, eventually if everyone converted the tournaments would pick up source but why would the 1.6 players want to play a game that they don't like as much? Like I said before, I don't expect to see any TOP professionals going to source before CGS expands the EU region and establishes more franchises. It just isn't worthwhile making the sacrifice to play a game that is clearly disliked by many to compete in 1 source match at the CGS. At the moment the European franchises have to play one single game before they go to World Finals. Also from a competitive point of view that isn't the ideal situation.
The only successful 1.6 players to have made the switch in Europe( excluding the UK players) have probably been Red and natu. Both of whom were lacking big possibilities in the 1.6 scene: when Red tried his luck there were no empty slots in top Swedish teams and the same goes with natu and the Finnish teams.
And I'm not trying to start a new 1.6 vs source battle. I'm just stating that in Europe it's far more profitable, and at the same time more fun for most players, to play 1.6. And it has nothing to do with the Americans changing games.
Some people are just so naive, stubborn and BLIND...
MYM were inactive. inCre didn't want to play more than two times a week. That's why rytme left to play on another team right before slap. orga and eXce wanted to actually try and be active again, but inCre and h0lm are happy at RL:R.
The team needed to go, but the speech about css is pure bullcrap.
#29 MYM previously had no intention of going to CGS. In light of the team splitting, orga and eXce might attend the combine but that was IT. Teams like reason don't want to play in the CGS.
Europe won a lot more tournaments in 1.6 then USA did..
1.6 isn't relying on any one other thing.
CounterStrike 1.6 or CounterStrike:Source were made to be played as a video game not as an e-sport on TV. Untill a game is made to be watched on TV, neither one will prosper further then what they currently are at.
For TV, i feel that WoW will be the big game for CGS and may see source drop out completely within the next 2 years, more people play WoW then any other game, and even if u don't play wow if you have played any blizzard game you can almost follow what is going on.
PLUS on top of that, YOU CAN SEE ALL THAT ACTION AT ONCE IN WOW, the arena is a good enough size that it all fits on ur screen from 1-3 angles, where CS 10 ppl could all be in different areas / behind walls where its hard to broadcast.
at the Moment, CGS's future is World of Warcraft.
(and no i'm not a WoW fanboy, i've played 1.6 for 6 years and still thinks its the best game atm.)
OMG MY FAV GAME IN ON TV :D comon, its not a moive or something, its a GAME for ppl to play
People are sticking to 1.6 for a reason, most of the hardcore source fans are way to ignorant to see this. Such as 43. Just because a game is newer, does NOT make it better. And source is just not even close compared to 1.6.
Even back in the 2003-2005 stage of 1.6 all the Europe teams were still taking the tournaments
You probably have never played 1.6 or you would know that europeans have been dominating this game the only american team that came close was complexity.
