Counter-Strike Source: CGS Playoffs 3D vs. Core Prediction

Tonight the season champs take on the struggling Core. Our on-location reporter takes a look at that match and attempts to predict the outcome.
Tonight 3D takes on the late season stumblers otherwise known as the Carolina Core. As the fourth seeded team entering the playoffs, the Core on paper look to be an easy win for New York. Some have dubbed Carolina as "a Cinderella Story", but personally I have to submit that they've just been blowing huge matches. The past 5 games have chalked up 5 consecutive L's. The Core rides into the playoffs on the record of a heralded early season by the skin of the teeth.

To be fair however, one needs to take a look at the span of New York's season and notice the big ugly sad face next to the early match-up where the Core derailed New York's pain train in an epic 30-16 result. They absolutely decimated the aforementioned powerhouse of the 3D Source team with a notable 14-4 score, a sharp contrast to the 15-3 evisceration 3D gave the Core just 5 days before.

FIFA

The line here is pretty blurry as to a standout favorite. On the one hand you have a straight 3-3 overall tie between these two franchises, on the other you have a player that can't seem to get the job done in his teams hour of need. Suffice it to say that when push comes to shove, Anomoly falls over. Losing every shootout you're in has the habit of labeling like that, hopefully for the Core, the Playoffs will kick him up a notch.

Forza

Forza is a entirely different beast. ComeBackDan has lead the pack (pun intended) with more first place finishes this season than any other single driver in the CGS. His partner in crime, Dark-Storm has a solid record of assists, securing the third place spot more often than not. That being said, taking a look at the heads up record between these two racing crews reveals a slight 2-1 lead for the Core, with the latest being in favor of 3D, a trend that echos the overall "Core used to be good" theme.

Dead or Alive

Wrapping it up, this portion of the match-up may well end up becoming the deciding factor. Coolsvilla has been a force to be reckoned with in the DOA female category, that force is exponentially increased when taken inside the scope of pure head-to-head stats. Losing only a single time, during the season opening match where she took on Mystik and lost 3-5, the past five consecutive matches have gone to Coolsvilla. However, don't consider this a huge advantage in favor of 3D, rather, take it as a counter-balance to Cheppelle's 1-5 history against Offbeatninja.

If the predictable happens and the two DOA scores either exactly or very nearly cancel each other out, this franchise match will almost certainly be decided in the greater majority by CS:Source, in which case I'd put all my chips on NY.3D.
