Counter-Strike Source: The eXperience 2008 Melee

By: Jack Westerman - Published July 23, 2008 at 8:50 PM EDT - Writer Archive
One of the most anticipated European CS: Source tournaments of the year concluded on Saturday in Roskilde, Denmark.
The eXperience 2008 started on Thursday at 09:00 CET in Roskilde, Denmark. The group stage finished on Friday and moved on to double elimination, and the event finally finished on Saturday evening.

With defending champions fnatic out of the picture, the title was up for grabs, and there were several teams in attendance more than capable of taking the crown. Many of the teams who attended are highly talented and very experienced, making the eXperience 2008 one of the most anticipated events of the year.

All teams progressed past the group stages. The top three teams from each group went into the upper bracket, with the top team from each group getting a default win in the first round of double elimination. The bottom two teams from each group went into the lower bracket.

Alexander Flemming, the official photographer of the eXperience 2008, has released his first photo gallery of the event. View the gallery by clicking here. In addition, several videos documenting the event have been released and are available here.

Final Standings
1. France Epsilon - €6,750
2. Denmark Magnitude - €3,000
3. Sweden 4Kings - €1,350
4. Finland Logitech.fi - €200
5-6. Crossed - €600
5-6. Russia MGC - €600
7-8. Czech Republic Reason Gaming - €200
7-8. Hungary Old Boys Incorporated
9-12. Denmark Roskilde Ravens
9-12. Norway MultiGamer
9-12. Norway Tweaked - €200
9-12. Sweden Mortifier

Teams received small slices of the prize pot for winning Upper Bracket matches, as well as lump sums for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Hence, it is possible for two teams to finish in the same position (9th - 12th for example) but for one team to have more winnings than the other.

Can some explain me why magnitude won the 1st match de-train and lose the 2nd match with close pts and epsilon announce as the grand winner? Shouldn't it 1 - 1?

Where can i download the demo ? My place was blackout whole day n i couldnt watch any of the final day match.

Its because Epsilon came from the upper bracket, so they had to win only one map, whereas magnitude neeeded to win 2 to get the title. So, even if they lost the first, they managed to win the second and win the final.

good job

Unlike traditional prize systems that award teams based on their finish, TeX's prize system awards teams on a per-match basis - as such, a team that wins from the upper bracket will win more money than a team that comes from the lower bracket to win the event.

Here are the matches, and how much they are worth, distributing the €12,500 prize fund:

1st Place €3,750
2nd Place €1,250
Consolidation winner €350
Consolidation loser €750

Upper Bracket 1 €200
Upper Bracket 2 €400
Upper Bracket 3 €800
Upper Bracket 4 €1,600

As an example of how this prizes system works, if a team was to win all of their matches, they would win €200, €400, €800, €1,600, €3,750 - giving them a total prize of €6,750.

If a team, on the other hand, lost their first elimination match and dropped into the Lower Bracket, but then went on to win the event, they would get the €350 for winning the Consolidation match, then €3,750 for 1st Place, making a total of €4,100.

iseries and TeX are best LANS in EU imo, looots of great teams (shame that in TeX there wasn't any CGS teams). Nicely played epsilon, so many teams had good chance to win: Magnitude, 4Kings, Crossed, MGC, Reason Gaming, Team Epsilon, Team Logitech...
