Counter-Strike Source: CEVO-Pro Season 7 Preview

By: Rob Maher - Published October 22, 2008 at 1:35 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Carolina Core

United States Cyrus "org" Habibi
United States Sonny "s0nNy" Tran
United States Mark "masternook" Torrez
United States Chad "daffsta" White
United States Sam "devour" Chamma

The "bad boys" of CGS are back for another online season of CEVO. They were one of only two teams to compete last season, placing second behind Dallas (notice a trend here?) in an excruciating long final filled with delays. They finished fourth in the CGS standings last season, not nearly as well as they did in the first.

This team has always been inconsistent, but it will be hard for them to replicate last season's second place with the rest of the CGS talent in the mix.

Recent Accomplishments:
3rd place CGS American Regional Season 2
2nd place CEVO-P Season 6

San Francisco OPTX

United States Laurent "Warmach1ne" Keoula
United States Moe "mOE" Assad
United States Yazan "clowN" Ammari
United States Mike "paradox" Stanowski
Canada Garett "Grt" Bambrough

Like the Carolina Core, San Francisco is one of the more unpredictable teams in the league. They made a pretty big roster change during the second CGS season replacing Trevor "p0s" Randolph and Ryan "pham" Pham with Mike "paradox" Stanowski and Garett "Grt" Bambrough. What was once a second place team in both CEVO and CGS, seemed to have gotten a little worse when they only ranked fifth amongst the CS:S teams in season 2.

Some of that could be contributed to chemistry issues, but they've had a lot of time to work that out. This entire lineup is pretty much stacked with some of the best original source talent to play the game, and they will need everyone to step up if they want to be a powerhouse once again.

Recent Accomplishments:
2nd place CEVO-P Season 5
5th place CGS American Regional Season 2

Chicago Chimera

United States Albert "hahN" Hahn
Canada Pasha "lari" Lari
United States Lloyd "shaffeR" Shaffer
Canada Matt "Stevenson" Stevenson
United States Erik "da bears" Stromberg

The Chimera are making their first appearance in CEVO since season 4, in which they finished last -- they didn't participate in the following season. They also finished sixth (last) in the most recent CGS season. As if that wasn't enough, Corey "tr1p" Dodd stepped down from the active roster and was replaced by Lloyd "shaffeR" Shaffer.

It's one thing to switch out a player, but when you lose a world class leader like Dodd and don't replace him with someone of the same caliber, it's going to hurt your team more than help. Things aren't looking good for Chicago fans, unless they've been doing some serious training during the off-season. However, regardless of how bad this sounds they'll still place in the top half of the league, if not better. They are paid professionals for a reason.

Recent Accomplishments:
6th place CGS American Regional Season 2
