Counter-Strike Source: GotFrag takes a look at UKeSA CS:S

By: Jordan Tower - Published February 19, 2009 at 2:34 PM EST - Writer Archive
With UKeSA season one just around the corner, GotFrag looks at UKeSA league and its Premier division.
UKeSA is a Counter-Strike: Source online gaming league. It is based from within the United Kingdom, and has a cash prize total of nearly £7200 ($9200). The league itself has three different divisions; open, championship, and premiership. The Premiership is the “professional” division which has a total of seven teams that will play all each team throughout a span of seven weeks. Every week there will be three matches played, and one team will receive a buy.

The map rotation for this seasons UKeSA league will include:

Week 1: de_inferno
Week 2: de_dust2
Week 3: de_nuke
Week 4: de_tuscan
Week 5: de_train
Week 6: de_inferno
Week 7: de_dust2

The seven teams which will be participating in the league are:

The Last Resort

Finland Ollimatti ‘delonge’ Vehkalahti
Finland Juho ‘zaikovski’ Sunnari
Finland Sami ‘Samitsky’ Kuivala
Finland Olli ‘kononen’ Salmi
Norway Ole-Christian 'gem' Slaattene

Ollimatti "delonge" Vehkalahti says:

“The core of our team has been together since last summer, when we played under the team logitech.fi tag and attended events like The eXperience in Denmark where we achieved a 4th place.
After having some problems with the organisation we left it, won the Eurokrieg Winter Invite online tournament.

We were forced to change our lineup after the tournament however, and found our new 5th player, Ole-Christian "gem" Slaattene from Norway, because there wasn’t a player skilled enough in Finland. We got picked up by the UK organisation The Last Resort after new years and will be attending all major lan events under their flag.

In UkeSA, I see great potential, it has maybe one of the best lineups of teams in an online tournament, and can possibly be the new big thing for gamers. We can't wait to be part of it and play some great games.”

fragmasters TOXIC

United Kingdom Luke 'KritikaL' Green
United Kingdom Henry 'HenryG' Greer
United Kingdom Daniel 'Re1ease' Mullan
United Kingdom Tom 'url' Chenery
United Kingdom Ben 'Kofk' Pratt

Team Manager Darren 'Yakkkkkk' Ball says:

“It’s a big step forward in UK e-sports, the premier leagues have attracted the top teams in all the relevant games and so we all expect it to be a very competitive event.

We believe we have the aim, team chemistry and the determination to take fragmasters Toxic to the next level, Toxic have been the bridesmaids at the last few big event, EPS, PCGamer, LAN i35 but with the introduction of the ex-CGS London Mint players URL and HenryG to our line-up we are looking forward to the challenge the UKeSA Premiership will present”

Team Dignitas

United Kingdom Marc ‘Mangiacapra’ Mangiacapra
United Kingdom James ‘wilzOOO’ Wilson
United Kingdom Pete ‘Pt’ Wright
United Kingdom Sam ‘RattlesnK’ Gawn
United Kingdom Elliot ‘wEZ’ Welsh
Louis ‘RED’ Nyberg

Team Manager Michael "ODEE" O'Dell
"We are looking forward to the UKeSA as it is an excellent opportunity to promote our sport in the UK not only to gaming fans but to people through main stream media. With the demise of the CGS and apart from the ESL EPS, UKeSA is a step towards gaining professionalism through a structured league. Our team has had to make some changes to get ready for this as online we always have problems so we will see what we can do."

Crack Clan

United Kingdom Richard “ritch” Gibbs
United Kingdom Thomas “beta” Hanna
United Kingdom Lewis “Hughsy” Hughes
United Kingdom Jim “Mx” Smale
Erik “HaZ” Holm

Thomas “beta” Hanna says:
"Our team formed around the start of 2009, after the collaspe of the CGS. We formed as "Heroes". Shortly after this ritch approached Crack Clan who offered us a great sponsorship and this basically leaves us where we are now.

As for the competition it's gonna be really interesting who come out on top. It's by far the most competitive league I've been in, all the teams are very solid and I can see some very good match ups coming!"

Four Kings

United Kingdom Alex ‘Alex’ Nock
United Kingdom Jack ‘Callisto’ Mason
United Kingdom Eamon ‘cauzed’ Pakos
Carlos ‘dumbazo’ Garcia Martinez
United Kingdom James ‘PEZ’ Perrott

Carlos ‘dumbazo’ Garcia Martinez says:

“Our team formed about 6 months ago if I'm not wrong, known as team-e. After a decent result at i35 (5th/6th), we joined the 4Kings organization. We've just won the first season of the ESL EPS UK (5.800 pounds), and that's it so far. We've just had a roster change few days ago, so our lineup consists of me, pez, aLex, Callisto and cauzed. We're looking forward to EPS S2 and UKeSA, probably the two best online leagues in Europe.”

Team-CoolerMaster

Christofer ‘Helblinde’ Nilsson
Daniel ‘giftig’ Ivarsson
Norway Simen ‘warclown’ Aas Henriksen
Norway Lasse ‘stingeR’ Midtstue
United Kingdom George ‘HudzG’ Hoskins

Christofer ‘Helblinde’ Nilsson says:

“TCM is currently a constellation of European players that have played together before in different teams. Me, giftig and warclown all played together in Reason-gaming, and before that warclown played together with Hudzg in Reason-gaming as well. The only real outsider in our team is StingeR, who was in the top of norweigen 1.6 but decided to join us instead and focus all his time on source. Before this, all of us have played in various top teams in Europe like 4Kings, London MiNT, STHLM Magnetik and Eyeballers.

I think that UKeSA adds something exciting to CSS in Europe, and it's something we really need to improve and make the scene more professional. Our team is looking forward to participate and try to form the competitive scene in Europe. There has been some minor issues already, but hopefully everything will be sorted since it starts really soon.”

Reason Gaming

Marek ‘.PhP’ Kádek
Petr ‘pR’ Novak
Adam ‘bazy’ Kaplár
Ladislav ‘Guardian’ Kovács
Martin ‘UN’ Stehlik

Marek ‘.PhP’ Kádek says:

“Our original and probably most famous roster was found few months before huge Lan79, which we won as underdogs for team eSuba. Then we were picked up by Reason (roster: WT sneix, pR, UN and me), and we were finishing second at almost every lan event during season 2008.

A week ago, we changed roster, after departure of WT and sneix, we picked up experienced players to replace them, Guardian and bazy... we are looking to challenge the best teams in UKeSA, which brings huge competition for all UK Organizations and their CSS teams.”
