Counter-Strike Source: $2000 Vegas LAN Tournament!

By: Chris Boutté - Published July 21, 2009 at 4:27 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Cybernetics Core is setting up for a showdown in the desert.
On July 25-26, Cybernetics Core in Las Vegas, will be hosting a $2000 1st place prize LAN tournament for Counter-Strike: Source.

Entry fee is $50 a player ($250 a team), and the first place prize may increase based on the number of teams that arrive.

The tournament will use the "CEVO config with fade to black on, and z-block."

The map rotation will include:

de_train
de_inferno
de_dust2
de_nuke
de_contra
de_season
de_cpl_mill

The LAN tournament will also feature live shoutcasting featuring Chris "bootman" Boutté, Bobby "weenus" Hicks, as well as some surprise guests.

UPDATE

The following excerpt is taken from the Cybernetics Core's website and shows an update regarding their event:

There has been some concern about the prize package by a few parties. We just want to assure everyone that steps have been taken to guarantee the $2000 grand prize, and we are 99.9 percent sure this is what will be paid out.

We want every team who has ambitions to take home this prize money to come to Vegas and participate in this tournament! We have our proper financial backing back in place, and we posted the above disclaimer only to cover our bases in case some unforeseeable and drastic event occurs (such as not enough teams showing up to the tournament).

The ironic thing is, if the teams who have expressed concern over the prize money do not show up, THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. So come on out, don't worry about the prize package, and have a good time! The $2000 prize stands, and we will take great pains to make sure it stays that way!

If you would like further details go to their website and contact the LAN center, or feel free to contact bootman.
