ESEA CS:S Intermediate Rankings - Week 5; Written by Heather "sapphiRe" Mumm

#1 - Crucial Connexion (10-0)
20ID
Previous rank: #1

As expected, Crucial Connexion finished off Week 5 with a 10-0 record. In addition to a forfeit win, Crucial Connexion demolished Sure-Shot 16-4. Crucial's two newest players, Torrr and mbp have really meshed with with the team in the past weeks. This is one of the few teams that has seen nothing but positive results from their mid-season changes. Crucial Connexion has some respectable opponents coming up in Week 6, but realistically, I can't imagine the team running into too much trouble.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Crucial Connexion vs. insoMnia
6:2 - Crucial Connexion vs. soundHax

#2 - eXult (7-3)
EG
Previous rank: #6

eXult continues to work their way back up the rankings with two wins in Week 5. The team's most notable victory was a close but impressive 16-14 win over Fragstarz. As usual, freakazoid dominated with thirty-four total frags which was crucial in making up for davE's bottom-scoring nine frags in thirty rounds. In their second match against eXe, eXult was without freakazoid, whom departed the team for Netcode Illuminati in CS:S-Invite. However, against eXe, that didn't seem to have any negative effect as eXult dominated in on T-side in their 16-11 win. Still, it will be interesting to see how the team performs in the coming weeks without one of their star players.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Forfeit Win
6:2 - eXult vs. The High Crew

#3 - Zeb Gamers (8-2)
Loaded
Previous rank: #2

Zeb Gamers extended their win streak to six with two close victories in Week 5. First off, Zeb Gamers narrowly defeated ControL Gaming 16-13. In their second match, Zeb Gamers edged out The High Crew in overtime. The scores were a bit closer than I would expect of a second place team but nonetheless Zeb Gamers are 8-2 and well on their way to a playoff berth.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Zeb Gamers vs. mainLineGaming
6:2 - Zeb Gamers vs. Freaking Awesome Gamers

#4 - PC-Gamers Network (8-2)
Vicious Gaming
Previous rank: #5

Similar to Zeb Gamers whom are ranked above them, PC-Gamers Network also received a scare in Week 5 but squeezed by for the victory. PC-Gamers Network took on Immortal7 on de_contra. PCGN started off strong on offensive with a 10-5 half score but they weren't able to maintain their efforts in the second half, as Immortal7 rallied back. With much thanks to PCGN's phiL- whom put up huge numbers on both sides of the map, the team was able to narrowly edge out Immortal7 for a 16-14 win. I would have expected PCGN to have a stronger showing this week but with the victory, in addition to a forfeit win, PCGN is in third place in the division standings as well as third in the power rankings.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Forfeit Win
6:2 - PC-Gamers Network vs. insoMnia

#5 - Fragstarz (7-3)
Hostile Faction
Previous rank: #4

Fragstarz only match of the week came against eXult. Anytime a team can beat the reigning champions, it's generally an extremely significant and momentum-shifting win. Unfortunately, Fragstarz weren't able to take the victory, however, they were able to come within arm's reach. Despite best efforts, Fragstarz weren't able to shut down freakazoid whom put up huge numbers against the team for the 16-14 final score. While they were on the losing end, don't be surprised if Fragstarz grab hold of a huge momentum swing from this past match as the team takes on Second Nature and Immortal7 in the coming week.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Fragstarz vs. Second Nature
6:2 - Fragstarz vs. Immortal7

#6 - Immortal7 (7-3)
Strickland Propane
Previous rank: #8

Despite going one for two on de_contra, I'm inclined to think that Immortal7 had a fairly successful Week 5. First up was PC-Gamers Network. Immortal7 struggled in the first half, as PCGN dominated on T-side for a 10-5 half score. A number of those rounds were in Immortal7's grasp but they fell victim to several 1v1 and 2v2 round wins from PCGN. Though in the second half, Immortal7 had a strong T-side of their own but fell just short in the end for the 16-14 loss. Next up was The High Crew, a team that isn't nearly as strong as PCGN but still considered a challenging opponent. Immortal7's defense was a vast improvement from the first match, giving the team a huge 12-3 lead at half. They quickly closed out the match in the second half for the 16-5 victory. It's interesting to see that week after week, Immortal7 consistently performs better in their second match. While it may be coincidence, I speculate that the team may be putting in the necessary effort to amend any problems and learn from mistakes discovered the first time around. Should that be the case, the team could see positive results by the time they take on Fragstarz in Week 6:2.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Immortal7 vs. soundHax
6:2 - Immortal7 vs. Fragstarz

#7 - Synchronous (7-3)
point and click
Previous rank: #9

Synchronous took on insoMnia in Week 5. Besides a few mishaps in the first half, Synchronous cruised to a rather easy 16-8 win. Their teamwork, specifically on T-side, was unparalleled, a quality the team consistently brings to the table each and every week. With the victory over insoMnia and a forfeit win, the team is sitting strong at 7-3. Looking ahead to Week 6, it's very likely that Synchronous will add two more to their win column.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Synchronous vs. ControL Gaming
6:2 - Synchronous vs. eXe

#8 - Second Nature (7-3)
point and click
Previous rank: #3

Second Nature suffered a rather devastating loss in Week 5. I don't mean to take anything away from their opponents, Freaking Awesome Gamers, but based on both team's results this far this season, Second Nature should have won this match. Despite an incredible offensive effort in the second half, Second Nature just couldn't seem to catch up after Freaking Awesome Gamers took a huge 11-4 lead in the first half. The team returned in true form in their second match against soundHax. Second Nature's defensive performance was a substantial improvement from the previous match. They easily came out on top with a final score of 16-6. While the upcoming match against Fragstarz will be a close battle, Second Nature needs to be sure not to let their guard down again against opponents they should be beating, such as ControL Gaming coming up in Week 6:2.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Second Nature vs. Fragstarz
6:2 - Second Nature vs. ControL Gaming

#9 - Freaking Awesome Gamers (6-4)

Previous rank: #7

Synchronous took on insoMnia in Week 5. Besides a few mishaps in the first half, Synchronous cruised to a rather easy 16-8 win. Their teamwork, specifically on T-side, was unparalleled, a quality the team consistently brings to the table each and every week. With the victory over insoMnia and a forfeit win, the team is sitting strong at 7-3. Looking ahead to Week 6, it's very likely that Synchronous will add two more to their win column.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Freaking Awesome Gamers vs. Maine Event
6:2 - Freaking Awesome Gamers vs. Zeb Gamers

#10 - The High Crew (4-6)
point and click
Previous rank: Unranked

The High Crew is hanging on by a very thin thread this week as the team has fallen to the bottom of the power rankings. After an embarrassing 16-5 defeat at the hands of Immortal7, The High Crew has managed to stay in the power rankings on account of valiant effort against Zeb Gamers. The High Crew took Zeb Gamers into overtime, but eventually dropped the ball for the 21-17 loss. The team will need to make significant improvements to their defense for the coming weeks as it cost them the match against Zeb Gamers.

Week 6 Opponents
6:1 - Forfeit Win
6:2 - The High Crew vs. eXult
